This particular spiced rum hails from Devil's Bridge in Wales, inspired by a Welsh legend involving a woman and her dog tricking the devil himself. Oh, and the cunning trick happens on a bridge, of course. Anyway, the rum was initially matured in bourbon barrels in the tropical climate of the Caribbean, before it was shipped over to Wales and treated to the addition of bara brith (a spiced Welsh fruit cake), Glengettie black tea, and Shirgar Carmarthenshire butter along other classic spices. A uniquely Welsh rum, for sure!
Buttery and rich, with dried fruit, bundles of baking spices, tannic tea, vanilla, and lingering cardamom.
I saw that this Rum has recently won a bevy of awards so thought I would give it a try. Wow it’s bold, spicy and very addictive no wonder its won! Never tried anything like this before. Would recommend!
Great taste neat or with a ginger ale. Notes of tea and spiced fruit especially raisin flavour with a buttery finish.
As a Welsh man I really wanted to like this rum, however, it was not for me, it was very expensive, with some rather strange flavours which were not up my street at all. Maybe it goes well in cocktails, but for that price I was hoping to sip it neat, which wasn't possible at all.
No idea what that reviewer who gave it one star thought they were drinking! If you like rum, this is a great one. It has depth of flavour that keeps on changing as you drink it, a lovely smooth level of sweetness and it mixes really well too. I actually like it straight on ice as a little sipper after dinner.
Smells ok, tastes like ****. Will need to mix it with coke to hide the taste. Massively disappointing. Might have rated it a 3 if it was £10, at this price, can't be more than a 1.
