Deadhead Cask Aged Rum
Deadhead is a six-year-old rum in a bottle shaped like a shrunken head, known as a tsantsa, a trophy kept from a defeated enemy by Mexico's indigenous Shuar people. Unique doesn't even cut it, as far as this bottle goes. The rum itself is a blend of pot-distilled sugar cane juice spirit and column-distilled molasses, matured in Mexican and American oak barrels for five to seven years.
Tasting Note by The Chaps at Master of Malt
Nose
Apples, pears and perhaps a little bit of strawberry juice. Quite grassy - if you enjoy a rhum agricole every once in a while, you'll pick up familiar notes here. Developing hints of mint chocolate too.
Palate
Less fruit sweetness than the nose (though orchard fruits to persist subtly). More focus on cooking spices and runny caramel, as well as continued rhum agricole grassy notes.
Finish
Medium length, with oak warmth and a touch of lemon peel.
