The first release from Scotland's Dark Matter Distillers is Dark Matter Spiced Rum - very exciting stuff! Created in Banchory by two brothers, Jim and John Ewen, Dark Matter Spiced Rum is a molasses-based rum that features full-bodied notes of long pepper, fresh ginger, green peppercorns and allspice.

I do not understand the negative reviews? This is the best of the best as far as I am concerned. In fact it is now my only spirt that I drink, beautiful to finish a night with, many of my friends have had a taste and not one have been negative about it.
I love it in a dark’n’stormy! Don’t really care that it is rather different to your usual spiced rum (hence many rum “experts” hate it). If you like a heavily spiced dark’n’stormy, if you like strong, spicey spirits, give it a try.
How anyone can describe this as "the worse drink ever" .... must say your review made me chuckle.... if it was that "intense they shot my taste buds to pieces".... why have a 2nd shot??? ..... laughing at this review "made my tummy ache"..... an absolutely lovely spiced rum...very different with quite a scented taste. .... i was surprised at the all spice.. would definitely buy and also recommend....... but hey mr "worse drink ever" if your giving yours away send it this way!!!
I can't remember ever drinking something so obnoxious. Ginger and spice flavours are so intense they shot my taste buds to pieces. 2 shots of this gave me a tummy ache. I've tasted my fair share of stuff over the years, exceptional stuff, mediocre stuff, boring and bland stuff, whatever. But this drink... this looks like it was designed as a dare, there is no subtelty, no levels, no interaction between flavours, just a big bang of overwhelming spice. No idea what I'm going to do with the rest of this bottle. Would happily give it away.
Loved it. Definitely should be drunk neat to get the full taste. If anything bad to say about it it’s that it’s quite sweet, but I love the allspice and clove flavour. Maybe not a drink for people that mix their drinks but then again whisky and rum shouldn’t really be mixed with anything bar a hint of water or an ice cube but everyone to their own
