The first release from Scotland's Dark Matter Distillers is Dark Matter Spiced Rum - very exciting stuff! Created in Banchory by two brothers, Jim and John Ewen, Dark Matter Spiced Rum is a molasses-based rum that features full-bodied notes of long pepper, fresh ginger, green peppercorns and allspice.

Unlike any rum I've tried before. The cloves and other spices hit you as soon as you open it. So far I've had a few neat sips but I think I will need a mixer with it. It's just too much of a hit for me. I'll try ginger beer rather than coke to take the edge off it. Definitely different.
Spicy clove smell and strong HOT taste of cloves, cardamom, allspice, maybe a hint of cinnamon. The spices make it bitter but invigorating; It's almost a cold-mulled flavour. It's very interesting but I like dark rums to be sweet, and this wasn't to my taste
Awesome taste if you like spices. Buy normal rum if you don't like spices you Wallies
Smell: very strong spice, lots of cloves, little sweetness. Neat: almost a peppery taste! Very strong aftertaste, very warming and alcoholic. Don’t think I like. Disappointed, wanted to like it a lot! With coke: far too clovey to be drunk a lot, spicy, but not very pleasant
This is a belter of a rum. Now I love my sweet spiced rums like OVD, Redleg, etc but as others have stated, this is wonderfully different. It stands out from the crowd. I recommend you try it before you buy a whole bottle. Xmas spices in a drink - madness or genius? You decide.
