A trio of exceedingly rare high-proof rums from Trinidad's legendary long-lost Caroni distillery, brought to us by indie masters, House of Rum. This trilogy of Caroni HTR (Heavy Type Rum) expressions showcases the distillery's bold, unmistakable full-bodied character in all its glory. Each expression is single column distilled from molasses and tropically aged in Trinidad, followed by further, slower continental ageing in the UK.
Caroni HTR 1997 Cask #25163 matured for 13 years in bourbon casks in Trinidad, followed by 15 in American oak casks in the UK, bottled at 28 years and 60.5% ABV. It delivers oily oak, tar, olives, and sticky dates, with a peppery tobacco finish.
Caroni HTR 1998 Cask #251 spent 10 years in bourbon casks in Trinidad, and 17 years continentally ageing in American oak, is 27 years old and 62.2% ABV, offering overripe fruits, diesel, vanilla, and a dry, woody finish.
Caroni HTR 1999 Cask #25204 Spent its first 11 years in bourbon casks in Trinidad, then a further 15 years in American oak in the UK. Bottled at 62.7% ABV, it bursts with tar, menthol, rubber, and finishes with sherry, ginger, and peppery spice.
Caroni HTR is made from molasses, distilled using a single-column still, and boasts high congener levels – the flavour-rich by-products of fermentation, earning its "heavy" title.
