Caroni 23 Year Old 1998 Single Cask (Master of Malt)
A real gem from Trinidad's Caroni distillery, this rum was distilled in 1998 and spent the following 23 years maturing in a single cask. During that time, the cask found its way to us, which was a spot of luck, as the rum within makes a perfect addition to our Single Cask independent bottling range! Just 145 bottles of this one.
Tasting Note by The Chaps at Master of Malt
Nose
Pretty punchy from the off with soft leather cushioned by stewed, estery stone fruits before hefty charred oak and a hint of furniture polish creep in. Creamy vanilla and a touch of spicy nutmeg eventually rise from the depths.
Palate
Thick treacle and burnt brown sugar with tingles of clove and woody spice emerging, but not taking over. Old oak and a touch of bitterness lead to a hearty warmth, with candied orange peels and old leather.
Finish
A pungent, long finish, with soft rubbery oak and slight kitchen spice bitterness, along with pithy orange. Charred herbs and peppery spice. Drying oak and cigar box linger.
