Fans of bold and full-flavoured rums will appreciate this Navy Strength edition from Cargo Cult, bottled at 54.5% ABV. It's a boisterous blend of 3-year-old 100% pot still rums from countries across the South Pacific.
Nutmeg, star anise, red chilli earthiness, dark chocolate, fruit cake, flamed orange peel, and fruit cake.
A lovely rum. Think lightly aged, chocolate scented Wray & Nephews as an approximate comparison (at least to my palette)
As I understand this is a pure pot still rum from Fiji. The nose is milk chocolate powder (hot chocolate) with marshmallows and a slice of bakewell tart - heavenly. The palate is more of the same, and the finish is quite long with predominantly the chocolate powder notes. It is absolutely delicious and at a price that begs you to play around with it in cocktails too. Perhaps a little on the sweet side for some but don't let that put you off, you can always adjust balance in a cocktail.
