Brugal XV Bottling Note

A well aged, well blended rum from top Dominican producers, Brugal. To create the XV, they use a selection of ex-bourbon casks and casks which have previously held Pedro Ximénez Sherry, aged between 3 and 8 years.

Tasting Note by The Chaps at Master of Malt

Nose: Pleasingly oak-y, with chewy caramel, ripe banana and dark coffee. Hints of flamed orange peel and Sherry soaked raisins.

Palate: Orange zest, dark chocolate and damp oak at the fore. Quite nutty on the mid-palate, with coffee beans adding to this.

Finish: Sweet marmalade, toffee pennies and baking spices linger on the finish.

5 star rum

I already have tried normal brugal, which made me buy this bottle. It is as good a brugal but ilwith a intense oak flavour, a bit of chocolate and resins.
Enjoyable by it self or on its own.

A Scotch Drinker's Rum

I'd like to preface this by saying that I grew up on Scotch. A good single malt is by far my dram of choice. A Rum Reviewer had me try this one evening, and I'm hooked.

The tasting notes are pretty spot on here, so I'll simply add that the palate is magic. I would describe it as hitting the palate with a slightly sweet oak, like a good single malt whiskey akin to Glenmorangie's Lasanta; then somewhere about halfway through the mouth sweetens up into a distinctly aged rum that finishes cleaner than the notes above suggest. Orange features well through the mouth, but doesn't overpower the oak, or subtle spices. Having had this in both the Tropics and Appalachia, I can say that the setting this is enjoyed in is as versatile as the palate it presents.

As I said, I enjoy Scotch, capital S. But there is a magic to be had in this bottle.
