Appleton Estate 12yo

Previously known as Appleton Estate 12 Year Old Rare Blend, this expression from the extraordinary Jamaican rum range is truly fantastic stuff. Matured for at least a dozen years in oak casks, this expression displays a marvellous flavour profile of ripe fruit, rich chocolate, molasses and more.

Tasting Note by The Chaps at Master of Malt

Reviews for Appleton Estate 12 Year Old Rare Casks
Pot pouri of taste sensation
Savoured many times in Montego Bay and Ochi over the years. Splendid experience every time, wait until you try the older, more mature varieties..

Well worth the money,is a very rounded drink but has to be drunk on its own do not even contemplate a mixer!!!!

It’s a conversation stopper, you’ll stop chatting and take a moment to just enjoy it.
Balanced, easy drinking without being lightweight, round, dangerously moreish. It’s almost 40 quid and it’s cheap!

It's good, but it's different!
I have been a great fan of the 12 Year Old Rare Blends, considering it to be a good alternative to the 21 Year old at 20-25% of the cost. (I've not tasted the 25 year old or the Joy Spence special edition, unfortunately).
I bought a couple of bottles of this and while it is certainly a good offering from Appletons, to me it doesn't taste the same, maybe more oak and not quite as smooth. Fortunately I still have a bottle of the Rare Blends. It gets 4 stars from me simply because I prefer the earlier bottling.

Smooth but rich in flavour
Delicate and smooth but rich in flavours to the point it can be enjoyed on its own as you would a single malt. Very tasty.

Superb
Absolutely amazing on its own or with coke on lots of ice. I also use this in sponge cakes. You may think it's too expensive for that but - believe me - it makes all the difference and adds that subtle hint of almonds that cheaper rums simply cannot match.
