Maguey Vida

Del Maguey Vida Clásico is a single village mezcal. It’s made alongside the tropical riverbed in the village of San Luis Del Rio, Oaxaca, where the Red Ant River flows. The agave used is 100% Espadin that’s naturally fermented and then twice distilled in wood-fired copper stills. Vida Clásico is bottled at 42%, unblended, in a "time-honoured" 400-year-old way and makes for an ideal introduction to sipping mezcal.

Vida Clásico comes from Del Maguey, a brand created by mezcal legend and pioneer Ron Cooper. While in Mexico the spirit was always appreciated as a key part of the culture, Cooper helped introduce mezcal to a wider audience in an authentic, loving portrayal rather than as a means to exploit its market potential. Appropriately, Del Maguey makes very fine mezcal.

Tasting Note by The Chaps at Master of Malt

Reviews for Del Maguey Mezcal Vida
Mezcal, bloody nice, once you drink it right!
As someone who loves a good Tequila, I had never tried Mezcal before, but was intrigued. Neat, I found it not nice, but after studying how Mexicans drink it, I tried it with a teaspoon of Agave Nectar, and/or some blood orange juice then it was really gorgeous! Smoky like an Islay Whisky, but so many other flavours. Different than Tequila, but well worth it.

fresh, clean slightly medicinal at first
My Brother sent this to me as an introduction to good sipping Mescal, it is clean and crisp, tobacco and dried herbs, at first slightly medicinal but a clean finish. Lovely like a young highland whisky.

Respect the artisan.
Being a bar manager and dealing with 100.s of spirits, I can truly say these maguey liquids are indeed the most complex but amazing at the same time. Personally I would not mix this liquid with any other (enough agave out there for cocktails) . Neat is how I would savour this liquid gold.
For a full experience I would personally not mix it. Plus expensive cocktail if you are using this liquid,

A Real Winner
Clean, crisp and light with dried fruit on the palate, followed by phenolic smoke (not unlike Islay Scotch). There’s some salt and pepper on the finish. Nose is medicinal/phenolic/smoky with candied fruits. Insanely smooth and drinkable neat. Abosutely fantastic stuff.

Excelente!
I was in a nice bar in Athens the other night, I saw this under the tequila options in the menu, and I decided to go for it as I remembered that I had heard some good things about mescal and this brand in particular.

I am very glad I made that choice, this stuff is superb!

I had some terrible experiences with cheap tequilas in my university years, and this was my first tequila-type drink after many many years (maybe 15), so perhaps I am being too generous with respect to my score, but I loved it.

Strong but nice
Muy sabroso. Al principio te golpea pero luego se va suavizando con el tiempo y van apareciendo las notas de sabor que caracterizan a un buen mezcal. No es un mezcal para principiantes. Tiene mucho cuerpo y estructura.

Awesome
Nothing as anything I ever tasted. Complex though harmonic. Never tasted the other Del Maguey but this is brilliant
