Corte Vetusto present the limited edition Ensamble (blend), aimed at challenging UK perceptions on mezcal and agave. Claiming that single malt whisky has a genuine sipping alternative and that mezcal can be a premium cocktail ingredient, the brand are determined to showcase the variety of flavour within agave.
Using an artisan method of production, a conical earth oven cooks the trio of agave used (Madrecuixe, Cuixe and Coyote) until it is ready to be milled by volcanic stone before natural fermentation can take place. Ensamble is distilled to proof (43% ABV) in a 250L copper still, before second distillation occurs in an ancestral 70L clay pot still. Corte Vetusto Ensamble is unaged, or Joven, in Mexican.
Vanilla, mint leaf, rich wood smoke and sweet agave all present themselves with distinction.
Sharp, salty olives blend with the smokey tones and lead to spicy black pepper and sweet caramel.
A creamy feel, with floral and earthy notes and fresh, crisp citrus fruits make a deeply complex finish. Really very cool stuff.
You can really taste where the extra cash went on this one. Delicious.
An amazing mix of fresh, cirtus, smoke, agave. Easy to drink (maybe too easy!?). Love it straight up, and working on my favourite ways to use it as a mixed drink (lime, butters, tonic). Such a pleasant surprise.
If I could give this more than 5 stars I would, simply outstanding! A really unique Mezcal, that delivers flavor and complexity. A true masterpiece.
