Escubac Bottling Note

Escubac is an impressive, handsomely presented liqueur produced as a collaboration between Sweetdram (a collective of distillers now based in Edinburgh) and Combier (a long-running French distillery in Saumur). It's a re-imagining of a traditional, long-forgotten French liqueur, featuring notes of caraway, cardamom, cinnamon, clove, coriander, cubeb, green anise, lemon, liquorice, sweet and bitter orange, nutmeg, star anise and vanilla. Excellent as an aperitif, this can be enjoyed over ice or with tonic water if you prefer a longer serve.

Tasting Note by The Chaps at Master of Malt

Spiced orange pomander balls, creamy vanilla and warm, winter spices, with a touch of liquorice.

Simply Fantastic

One of THE BEST drinks I've had! Sad we can't get it in the US

Amazing

Zesty, light, aromatic and refreshing.. just amazing. Its different to anything I’ve ever had before and so enjoyable. Simply mix with tonic. Fantastic!

For fans of gin who are tired of bland gins

WOW. I was recommended this by my brother, and as a big gin fan of Gin, this was really refreshing. Spicy, sessionable but also really fresh and summer-y. Tried it with tonic and with ginger ale - both exceptional

My favourite spirit!

Escubac is without a shadow of a doubt my favourite spirit to drink with tonic, and as someone who doesn’t tend to reach for spirits very often, I’ve gone through about 4 bottles since I discovered it a couple of years ago! I love showing it to friends and always get the same feedback: it’s delicious. The flavour isn’t directly comparable to anything else, it’s just such an unusual product and I think everyone at Sweetdram should be really proud of themselves. I’m not one to write reviews often but I think everyone should try Escubac - you’ll love it!

Exceptional

Fabulous! So bored of gin these days. Hard to find a unique flavour but this though. This is exceptional :)

Tasty AND different!

Love this stuff! Honestly can't get enough of it with tonic! I love gin as much as the next person but Escubac is great to have around the house for something a bit different at the weekend. Super tasty and refreshing with tonic and some lemon - and the bottle is stunning!

Not another Gin

I tried this in a hipster-y bar in town before I sunk cash into a bottle of the stuff. Sweetdram themselves advise it as a gin substitute in a G&T, so I wilfully obliged and had it with some nice FeverTree tonic. I wasn't disgusted, but underwhelmed: this tastes like a barely more sophisticated Jaegermeister, which isn't necessarily a bad thing, but not my cup of tea, or E&T

Grandparents' seal of approval

Complex, with herbal notes and a rich, interesting taste. Highly recommended. I bought a bottle for my grandparents who love a GnT and they were blown away by its complexity. Will be buying more of this for sure.

The best liqueur I ever tasted

This is the best liqueur I have ever tasted I'm on my 3rd bottle, I hasten to add this is in well over a year! I first read about it in the Sunday Times, thought that’s the drink for me and ordered one immediately.
I don't bother with any other liqueur now. The flavours are subtle deliciously sophisticated and it mixes brilliantly with tonic water. All I hope is it catches on so it never goes out of production.
Praise in bottles full for the blenders at SweetDram.

Unique, sophisticated, delicious

Exceptional. One of the best liqueurs ever tried. I've worked in some prestigious cocktail and premium spirits bars and I've never tried anything like this. Compliments to the boys at SweetDram.

Lovely rounded cardamom and cinnamon base notes, zingy citrus top notes, it has the appeal of gin in its complexity but with dimensions you can't achieve with gin alone. It has slight medicinal qualities of classic French and Italian amaros but nothing so aggressive that it would deter first time drinkers. But the most striking is the balance and the emergent flavour is truly unique.

Above all, it's sophisticated but unassuming and somehow never seems grandiose. Delicious on ice, or with tonic (personal favourite). There will always be a place in my cabinet for Escubac.
