Ketel One actually originated as a jenever distillery, so it makes sense that the award-winning vodka producer should release some excellent jenever. This is a "jonge" jenever, with a smaller proportion of malt wine in the mix. Hints of spice and fruit, this is great with soda water as a long drink.

This is an excellent jenever in the style of 'jonge jenever'. Being a 'graanjenever', it is distilled from 100% grain (so no cheap suger beet or patato molasses). In the tradition of Jenever from the town of Schiedam, these grains are barley and rye only. It's a very malty jenever with a lot of bread-like 'bite' coming from the grains and a lot of freshness coming from the use juniper berry extracts (hence the name 'Jenever' or 'geneviere' as they say in french-speaking parts of Belgium). Since 2008 Jenever has a 'appellation d'origine contrôlée'; it can only be made in Holland, Belgium and some small parts of Germany and France but it is mostly associated with Holland. This history of Jenever distilling in Holland goes way back to the 15th century and is as such one of the oldest known types of distilled spirits in the world. As of 2012 Jenever is making a huge worldwide comeback in clubs and bars as a good alternative for whisky in cocktails. As a result it is regaining the position it had up until the start of the 20th century as the worlds preferred distilled spirit.
