Filliers 1997 Vintage Grain Genever
Long-aged genever, anyone? Astonishing stuff right here from the Filliers distillery in Belgium. This genever is made with rye, malt and corn, and has been left to age in American oak barrels from February 1997 to March 2015, when it was bottled at 43% ABV.
Tasting Note by The Chaps at Master of Malt
Nose
Buttered malt load with a small dollop of redcurrant jam. Touches of lemon cheesecake with a slight dusting of cinnamon. Develop wafts of forest air - fragrant and herbaceous.
Palate
Sugared almonds and crème brûlée. Milk chocolate too. Juniper is light and woody, opening the door to oak-y elements and rye bread notes - subtly sweet and subtly spiced.
Finish
Drying on the finish with the last hints of rye warmth.
