To create this exciting gin, The Wrecking Coast distillery in Tintagel macerate 12 botanicals in grain spirit for a fortnight before running through a computer controlled iStill (no, really). Meanwhile, the signature botanical, Cornish clotted cream, is cold distilled in a vacuum still before the two spirits are blended together!
Though clotted cream adds a creamy depth to the spirit, the prominent flavours are of wonderful garden-y floral notes and peppery spice. Recommended serves are either neat over ice or with tonic, strawberries and lime.
A creamy mouthfeel carries notes of vibrant, earthy juniper, vanilla pod and honeyed floral. Hints of angelica root and peppercorn stick around in the background.
Wouldn't rank as one of my favourites, but it's slightly quirky & not entirely unpleasant. As with earlier reviwer ... I didn't "get" any clotted cream
Absolutely loved this - didn't expect to! Very gentle flavour that builds up as you drink it. Used Fever Tree tonic and fresh strawberries.
We found that any kind of tonic totally kills the hint of clotted cream. The best mixer to use with this gin is Summer Fruits flavoured sparkling water from Tesco or Aldi: both bring out the rich creaminess that we were hoping to get from this gin!! Add some ice and a couple of halved strawberries and it is a gorgeously drinkable glassful.
May not have the clotted cream taste but this is incredible! I think it adds to the smooth finish and the lingering flavours are out of this world! It’s my new favourite and, for a massive gin drinker, that’s saying something!
I don't see what others see in this gin. I get no clotted cream at all. I've tried it with fever tree tonic and others as well as with fresh strawberries as others have mentioned. No luck. It's quite bitter and oily. Expensive mistake :(
