Many of us here at MoM Towers have wanted to visit California, but for one reason or another, we've not hopped on a plane just yet (I think it's mostly for fear of grizzly bears and not being able to get a proper cup of tea).
However, the wonderful folks at St. George Spirits have provided us the next best thing, the Terroir Gin! Now in a 70cl bottle, its botanical selection of Douglas Fir, Coastal sage and Californian bay laurel gives it a magical nose that makes you really feel like you're stood in a Californian forest (with no chance of a grizzly sneaking up on you as an added bonus!).
You're out in nature. In a forest to be precise, surrounded by Douglas firs and woodsy herbal aromas.
Fresh, with more fir, pine and bay laurel alongside the coastal sage. Well-structured and moreish.
Evocative and very long with citrus and lingering herbaceous notes.
A huge favourite of ours, it's just so evocative. Superb stuff.
Disclaimer: I drink my gin neat, or with ice, so I can’t say how this works with a mixer. This is one of my three favourite neat gins. It flows around the palate, and the middle flavours of pine and juniper are balanced by citrus and aniseed highlights, with sage and bergamot base notes. In my group of about a dozen (mixed) drinkers, all of the men really loved it, and all of the women hated it. I’m giving it 5 stars, as this is both lovely, and incredible value.
For anyone who describes this as "crisp" or "clean" I wish I could taste what you are tasting because that's my favourite kind of gin. Even when paired with a very neutral tonic like 1724 in small quantities I find this gin cloying and over sweet. If you're looking for clean and crisp I suggest looking elsewhere, Scilly gin is in a similar style without the cloying sweetness.
First time I've tried. Absolutely delicious. Some heavy juniper flavours but balanced with other roots/berries. Did I detect some citrus notes too??? When I first saw the bottle I assumed either Canadian or Alaskan gin. (Because of the bear) good to try an amazing Californian gin!!
It reminds me of Mammoth .. the soil is volcanic a red loam color it has this earthy tone. Manzanita bush produces a white flower in the spring.. that gives it’s the citrus’s taste Jeffery and Douglas fir with tones of butterscotch and vanilla ..lodgepole pine, sage and juniper..it is magnificent bled Transporting me there with every sip.
Terroir is intense. In a martini made 3:1 with Dolin it is amazingly good but it won't leave you wanting to get hammered because it is just so satisfying. In a gin and tonic made with Fever Tree light it is, again, perfection. I look forward to it in a Rittenhouse and Cocchin negroni.
