Rosé Sainte Marie is a superb gin handcrafted in Salcombe, inspired by the aromas, flavours and lifestyle of the South of France. Hence why it's named after the Sainte Marie Lighthouse which marks the Southern entrance to the Old Port of Marseille, from where the Salcombe Fruit Schooners would load citrus fruits and herbs bound for the UK. Though it's pink, this gin has no added sugar, taking more inspiration from dry rosé Provence wine. Depending on what you fancy, a different garnish will bring out different notes. A slice of strawberry will enhance the red fruit notes, whereas a ribbon of lemon peel will magnify those citrus notes.
A lovely floral bouquet of delicate lavender and rose, livened by peppery juniper and a hint of spice, followed by subtle red fruit sweetness and fragrant citrus on the finish.
A fantastic “pink” gin that isn’t sweet and sickly! Such a perfect summer gin!
I tried their Start Point gin and loved it so thought I'd give this a go. It's a completely different gin, much more mellow with lighter flavours, it's makes a really smooth drink. The only problem now is trying not to drink it so quickly!
I must confess that I am not a big fan of pink or flavoured gins ( I know all gins are flavoured, but you know what I mean). This one however I need to make an exception for. I was out with friends recently and when asked what I wanted to drink, I requested a Salcombe & Tonic having spotted one of my favourite gins, their Start Point behind the bar. The barman poured a Rose Sainte Marie & tonic instead and garnished it with fresh strawberries and lemon peel. Not what I was excpecting, but what a lovely suprise. Seriously moreish, soft, fruity and not overly sweet. A brilliant example of restraint and balance. Bravo!
I really don't like 'pink gins', but this one is delicate, dry, sophisticated and dangerously moreish. It's absolutely delicious!
Try as I might, I really didn’t get on with this gin so ended up passing it on to friends who enjoyed it. It had a bitter, almost alkaline taste to me. Must be faulty tastebuds!
