Plymouth Gin Bottling Note

A long-standing favourite tipple, Plymouth Gin was one of the few gins to have a geographic indication, obviously pertaining to its eponymous city. However, Plymouth Gin lost this indication in 2015, although it is still of course produced in the city. This is the original gin from the distillery, crafted from seven botanicals in a pot still with a rather short neck, and is blended with Dartmoor water. It is then bottled into the classic ‘shaving bottle’, with its distinctive green glass.

Plymouth English Gin Reviews

Worth the extra cost

As long as you don’t disrespect this lovely gin with cheapo tonic it will be a friend for life.

The best everyday tipple

My husband's favourite gin and I'm more than happy to have it as our go to gin. Brilliant value for money.

A favourite

Smooth enough to sip neat. Lovely with tonic. Crisp and tasty.

It's the classic gin named in so many cocktail recipes - History in a glass.

Have been a Gin drinker all my eligible years and still cannot find a better Gin in smoothness and taste unfortunately it makes me selfish when entertaining guests; simply the best

Having tried and tested the full range of all the new and modern style Gins I cannot find any that match the strength and flavour of Plymouth

High class quality gin.

A first class gin set apart from the rest. Good crisp taste, very delicious served in a highball glass with a high quality tonic and lime. My favourite standard strength gin.

An absolute classic gin that will always be up there for many a great cocktail mixer...

Simply great gin

This gin is so well balanced and smooth. By far my favourite all round gin for simple G&T or any limey cocktail.

It has very little flavor. I would not buy again

Best gin around for martinis.

Aside from the premium London dry gins, this is probably the best gin around for mixing martinis.

A great gin.

I have tried Tangueray 10, Monkey 47, Hendricks, Tangueray, Bombay, and a couple of Beefeaters. I like this the best for my Gin and Tonics. Sorry Tangueray 10, which was my old favorite. Gotta go with the Fevertree when making a gin and tonic.

Plymouth is the best mainstream gin, bar none. It's for true gin drinkers, those of us who love classic gin's bite, prominent juniper flavor, and perfect balance between a stringent citrusy beginning and smooth, deep-lasting finish. If you want a softer, more floral gin, go for Hendricks or (the best of them), The Botanist. I think of these as feminine gins, which is not to be derogatory, but simply to say that they're not, in my book, the real thing. The best of the transitional gins - somewhere between classic and floral - is Tanqueray Ten. A less expensive gin in the Plymouth camp and a very fine one is Boodles. But the state-of-the-art is Plymouth.

Absolutely super

With Dolin Dry Vermouth for me the best Martini I ever had. Juniper but not too much, smooth and citrus.

Just ok

It's alright

Light & Citrus Taste

After going astray from the core gin types and looking for some strong 'punchy' gins with individual flavours (Dodds / Berkeley Square / Ophir to name a few) I found that that coming back to this fine citrus & juniper gin is actually quite refreshing as it is not trying too hard to be different. It depicts what a gin should stand for. I like it.

Better than many

Lovely citrus note. I like how it is sweet, but has an enjoyable dry finish. Plymouth makes a great summer G&T. Not one I could drink all day and night though

Gin-taste-ick! (pronounced Gintastick..)

It is the only Gin that tastes like Gin should taste, accompanied of course by Fever Tree tonic.

26th November 2014

The best gin. Smooth with citrus overtones.

Mrs. Margaret Coolen

My husband and I find Plymouth Gin by far the best of all those available. It does cost a little more, but it is well worth it. The trouble is, we find it very difficult to locate locally at our usual Supermarkets!

the best gin I have had ever

3rd June 2014

Whilst wondering around the Barbican in Plymouth I bumped into the Plymouth gin distillery and bought a bottle.
At home I did a taste comparison with a supermarket own brand and what a difference, the Plymouth gin has better flavour, less harsh and far smoother!
You get what you pay for!

Perhaps the best gin for a Martini

Strong, well-rounded and balanced flavour. Works well in G&T but even better in a Martini (with a good dose of quality vermouth, I prefer 4:1).

Only buy the best

Fantastic taste, drink gin from the countries oldest gin distillery.
