Makar Glasgow Gin Bottling Note

The first product from the recently opened Glasgow Distillery Company, in the city of Glasgow is Makar Gin, launched in 2014 and named after the Gaelic word for "poet" or "bard". To make it, they use their copper pot still - affectionately called Annie - and seven botanicals, including juniper, angelica root, liquorice, coriander seed, lemon peel, rosemary, black peppercorns and cassia bark. Juniper-led, backed up by citrus and spice, with angelica and rosemary standing out on the palate and finish.

Juniper forward and delicious

An incredible juniper heavy gin worthy of all its awards!

Dusty and plastic notes?

Tasted like plastic and talcum powder. Not the juniper bomb I expected!

Judge a book by its cover!

this tastes just like the distillery looks!

Not a favourite

Sorry but found this to be a bit bland and we were not keen on the herbal botanics.

A perfect dry gin. Ok there’s some Glasgow prejudice but it really is one of the best

Being a fellowette Glaswegian whom now lives on the sunny side of the globe in the land of plenty, yes that would be Australia, where veggie mite sangas are renowned, good auld Men at work a.

Ok back to said Gin, I had the pleasure of sampling this wee beauty on my last trip back hame in January 2017, where? In dear auld Glesga toon, Bar Square to be precise, an Irish man, yes an Irish man introduced me to this delicious wee beverage, loaded with red chillies of course, on his recommendation, I have to say I wasn't disappointed at all, the aroma of this smooth but suprisingly refreshing wee swally had me all in a tither, my only disappointment was that I was unable to take a wee bottle back to Oz.

Keep wee Annie in the brewing custom that she is so deserving of, if she is producing fabulously brilliant wee Gins like this then she is worth her weight in gold, oops copper 😁

My apologies for waffling on but honestly I couldn't help myself...

Yours in beverage love

Glasgow gin delightful surprise

I had never tried Gin until I went to the rotary clubs beer and gin festival in Dalgety bay . Well I tried a gin before your one and don't like it in fact my words were if that's GIN it's yuk . I have worked in the alcohol trade before and tried lots of various other alcohols from whisky to beer to very expensive champagne. So when a friend said to me to try your Glasgow gin I was reluctant at first . But I have to say I'm converted as I found it very refreshing , it left my palate with a fruity berry taste. I enjoyed it so much I would buy a bottle to have . So thank you for making this delightful Gin .

Wonderful gin - really bold and fresh. Can be enjoyed with tonic or I tried ginger ale and it worked well, lovely!

earthy and different

Tried Makar for the first time tonight. Delicious! Loved the really earthy notes on the palate. Definitely one to add to my collection.

Excellent Gin

Tried it with the slice of Green Chilli and a fevertree tonic as recommended.

As you would expect, Juniper is the strongest of the botanicals coming through but aftertaste of Corriander and pepper make it fresh and quite moreish.

Pretty mild IMHO

This is Dec 1 in the Ginvent calendar. I didn't find the flavor all that strong. I love the smell and taste of rosemary and it's clearly there in this gin.

Robust indeed!

First impressions were of being slapped in the face by a juniper bush, however the strong taste did grow on me as the bottle got emptier. Like this one but if you drank it all the time it would make everything else seem tasteless.

Superb Gin

I've tried many gins and this one is a real stand-out gin that is a real treat. Great robust flavour that stands out from the crowd and one that will keep me coming back for more.

The flavour is a disappointment. There is a slight taint to this which I couldn't pin down - perhaps plastic is used somewhere in the distilling process? Best drunk as a pink gin - the bitters help mask the off flavour. At present, my least favourite from a great selection of gins.
