The first expression from Maidstone Distillery, this award-winning London dry gin was made using a single-shot distillation method as well as pure Kentish water and fifteen different botanicals including three types of juniper, coriander, angelica root, three different citrus peels, English Camomile, Indian cardamom, tellicherry pepper and cinnamon.
As you might have guessed from the name, the expression is something of a tribute to George Bishop, who was previously mayor of Maidstone and also the founder of the first Maidstone Distillery in the County Town in 1785.
Through gingerbread, piney juniper and floral notes there are dried citrus peel and coriander seed as well as tropical fruit, angelica, cardamom and a little fresh mint leaves.
There’s a lot more citrus (lemon zest) on the palate along with another helping of that warming baking spice, some liquorice, spicy juniper, clove, hints of Earl Grey tea and a little cardamom.
There’s some lingering floral notes and piney juniper in a dry, peppery finish.
It's good with plenty of flavour, interesting story too.
Been to the distillery recently and really fell in love with this gin. All their gins are great but this stood out to me. The flavour lingers long, really nice.
Just lovely. I was bought as a gift.
I was recommended by a friend who had visited the distillery. Fascinating story and lovely gin. It has great flavour even with plain tonic. Keen to try the rest of the range.
I've tried the distillery range and been to visit. All the products are quality and hand made.
