Hendrick's Gin Bottling Note

Hendrick’s is something of a household name. Perhaps you've heard of it? This terrific Scottish gin is made using two different stills - the Bennett stillsteeps its botanicals overnight before distillation, while the Carter-Head has its botanicals in a basket up in the still neck, steaming them gently. It features the likes of juniper, cubeb berries, elderflower, chamomile, angelica, lemon peel, orange peel, coriander, yarrow and orris, alongside an infusion of cucumber and rose petal. If you're making a G&T with this, it just has to be garnished with a ribbon of cucumber.

Tasting Note by The Chaps at Master of Malt

Nose: Big, creamy aromas right off the bat, with a little zesty citrus, juniper, rose petal jelly and cucumber.

Palate: Astoundingly fresh notes of cucumber with juniper, oak, a touch more citrus and vanilla. Creamy and savoury.

Finish: A long, refreshing, floral finish.

Hendrick's Gin Reviews

What on earth is the fuss about? Very dull. There are much more exciting and interesting gins at better prices.

Delicious but try with a sprig if thyme

A high end gin that is usually in every good cocktail bar. Beautiful served with a sprig of thyme because I can’t abide the cucumber that most barmen use as a garnish. Very smooth and delicious.

Massively overpriced and overrated gin...

Brother is keen on Hendricks. So I have been trying to find a way to like this gin...
He has just left a half empty bottle of duty free 44% Hendricks, so technically this should be an even better version of Hendricks with a lovely higher alcohol volume.

Nope, hardly any flavour profile, subtle cucumber...yay! This is definitely emperors new clothes or gin for non gin lovers or just refreshing with tonic/soda.

Massively overpriced, far better gins around for half the price!

My favorite

A cut above the rest in my opinion, just a personal preference. Highly over priced.

Lovely and refreshing especially with a slice of cucumber. One of my favourites.

7th February 2019

Nice, but overpriced

It's a nice gin, but you can get much better ones for less money.

Works best with cucumber though expensive for what you get.

First time I was given Hendricks I really didn't like it, the only way I'd drink this now is with cucumber, as the cucumber seems to really work well here. I find this is also expensive for what you get, which is nothing really special for me, other than the way it goes so well with cucumber.

Outstanding and unique

Delicious neat. Paired with Fever tree Elderflower it makes a knockout G&T on a hot evening. While I still love plenty of London gins with regular Indian tonic, this is my favourite for summer.

22nd March 2018

Superbly fresh

I love Hendrick’s, it’s got a fresh and cooling flavour. It’s smooth and dangerously easy to drink.

8th January 2018

Warning - this gin does not taste of cucumber!

I loathe cucumber. Can't abide the taste of the stuff and for a long time I was put off trying this gin because of the nonsense spouted by gin snobs on sites like this one. Glad I decided to try it for myself. It's cool, refreshing, and absolutely my favourite gin. It may include cucumber as a botanical but it certainly does not taste of cucumber. Don't be put off by certain reviews. Drink it with Fever Tree Mediterranean and a slice of lime. Pure nectar!

Epic gin I love it !

Today I walked into the LCBO Canada looking for a new gin to try out as a gin Lover.
As I was looking at all the different selections I seen a beautiful box that stood out and it was Hendricks gin.. I'm not sure if the box is limited edition but it came with a 375mL bottle inside and the box was almost like Alice in wonderland themed ..Just beautiful and had a bunch of cool pictures on it! It also came with a little "Unassuming little cocktail book" when you open it to take out your gin... So cool!! I bought it for 30$ but well worth it I am going to keep the box because it is a work of art and has very inspiring words on it that also sparked my creativity and hope.
Thank you hendricks :)

Great! Goes well with fresh fruit!

By far my favorite! Throw some fresh fruit in the glass for a great summer drink! My wife recommends strawberries, I like raspberries. Sliced cucumber or anything else you want to try!

23rd August 2017

Why are we worried how it's marketed?

It's not as if a bottle of Hendrick's will run you $80. Apparently there are many who don't prefer the flavor, but this isn't a flavored liqueur, such as cinnamon whisky. As only an occasional gin drinker, Hendrick's works well. I like it over a large ice cube. It's smooth. Nice change of pace on hot summer evening.

Response to "A drink for a "Night at the Opera""

Hey "A drink for a "Night at the Opera" - you sound like a pompous asshole.

19th May 2017

The emperors new gin

Hendricks is a gin for people who don't like gin. There, I said it. Broad strokes aside, the love for this brand is genuine and clearly shows theres many that feel cucumber and rose petals belong in the same sentence as juniper and orange. I personally don't rate this gin in a G&T but can appreceate it near or with ginger ale. I don't mind Hendricks, but I despise the introduction of cucumber in bars where incompetent bartenders believe all gins should be treate as a fruit salad.

i am a gin and tonic person and by far this is the best and smoothest gin I have had will highly recommend it😊

The "Ford" of the gin world.
It has its place.a good "Gateway gin"--better gins are available.
Lots of money behind the product.
Acker score 3/5

None better

My palate is not sophisticated enough to identify the various botanicals that go into any given gin. But I know what I like, and I don't like a miasma of perfumey flowers or an overwhelming jolt of anise in my gin. Hendrick's doesn't do anything wrong, and does everything right.

My cocktail of choice is a Hendrick's Martini, mixed 12:1 with Noilly Prat vermouth, shaken vigorously, and garnished with two super giant Spanish olives. "Incredibly refreshing." I couldn't have said it better.

17th January 2016

Like no other

The great flavor that never fails to satisfy.

19th November 2015

Short and simple

Better than London dry gin and much better than tranqueray gin, truly best sipping weekdays Gin .

18th November 2015

professional PALATE

I was not impressed with Hendricks gin.... it almost taste it like an organic gin. I like to Drink my gin straight so that I can taste it's true flavors. Any Gin can hide behind a cocktail but a really good gin can be consumed straight or mixed....versatility is key....I found that not to be the case with this Gin ....too spicy and had no character and all. If you want a great Gin to drink straight or in a cocktail try 209 Gin that's a great Gin and the price is better...

18th November 2015

Pretentious Rubbish!!

Have some of you lot listened to yourselves?? Its simple, everybody has a personal taste. Some will like it, some won't. Trying to sound like a stuck up snob over a bottle of gin. I, personally, think that Hendricks is one of the most refreshing gins for a summer G&T. Not due to any 'cucumber this, prime botanical' that rubbish, but the simple fact that (a difficult concept for an opera snob to understand here!!) - It tastes good! I think that instead of trying to break things down to justify an opinion, its easier to just stick to the simple tried and tested method of...... does it taste good or not?? Hendricks does, simple!

Interesting review from marketing marketing marketing. A drink is like a holiday, its made to measure and some will like it and some will not. Your job as a host is to find the best suited drink for your customer not you. So blind testing drink is pointless and an event to get drunk and socialise. Hendricks is a fantastic Gin and we'll worth a try :)

6th June 2015

The Best

Never been a gin drinker till I tried Hendricks with ice, a couple of slices of cucumber and a slimine tonic it is a wonderful drink my favourite just love it !

10th May 2015

I love a G&T. Great summer drink. Light and easy. My preference for Hendricks is a neutral tonic, cucumber over ice.

5th January 2015

Marketing marketing marketing

Without the whole "cucumber is a prime botanical" spiel being shoved down your throat at any and every opportunity, I would defy anyone to actually notice the flavour being there. I went to a blind tasting, with 25 other bartenders and I don't think that any of them actually picked out the cucumber - the overriding impression at the blind tasting was that this was a flavourless, uninspiring, weak gin. In fact, this was picked as the poorest of the gins in the test, almost unanimously. Others in the test were (if I remember correctly) Beefeater, Tanqueray, Tanq 10, Bloom, Sipsmith, Bulldog, Sloanes and 209. I am currently in the process of removing this from our bar and educating customers that, just because something is marketed well (and to be fair, it is marketed VERY well), it does not make it a quality product.

16th September 2014

Interesting, but ultimately not my thing

Rose and cucumber are extremely prominent in both the flavour and scent of this gin. This adds an interesting flavour for martinis, and makes a pretty killer G&T. Ultimately though, juniper tends to take a back seat to the other flavours. I feel as though, while interesting at first it does not have as much potential for versatility or a true quinine and juniper flavour that normally defines gin. This gin is best used for G&T's, as the lime really contrasts the smooth cucumber flavour.

30th August 2014

Hendrick's Gin

Unusual flavor,a taste to cultivate.I have yet to taste it with tonic.

6th August 2014

Love It

I don't personally enjoy the good old G&T, but Hendricks with tonic and a slice of cucumber is the best. Cant beat this drink.

4th July 2014

Fav Drink

just had it with tonic and really enjoys - beats all the other Gins on offer

3rd February 2014

good but watch how you mix it

Good with tonic, a slice of lemon and cucumber, or even straight, however once you venture out into mixing with juices or colas everything unique about it dies and becomes offensive.....

13th January 2014

My Absolute Favourite!

I love gin and have tried lots of good ones but I always come back to Hendricks. It has a faint scent of rose and works so well with cucumber.

2nd July 2013

A drink for a "Night at the Opera"

Arriving early at the Lincoln Center for the evenings performance of 'The Barber of Seville" A the Metropolitan opera, I had the most pleasurable expierience @ P.J. Clarkes while accompanying three lovely ladies. While perusing the beverage menu, To my delight i spot their Cucumber Martini Made with Hendricks. I had recently purchased a bottle but had yet to imbibe in it. Well nothing else mattered after the first sip. My three ladies observing my delight at my Martini. They asked for a sip and were mesmerzized by it's taste and it's effects on them. Before you know it, the waiter is currying countless deliveries of their new favorite liquid libation. The opera was the mets first english presentation that just wasn't the same. Nothing could ever be the same after our pre opera Hendrick's cucumber Martinis!

3rd June 2013

The best ive had!!

I tried this a few years ago and it instantly converted me from a take it or leave it guy, when it came to G&T, to being my drink of choice. Served with loads of ice, slimline tonic and a slice of cucumber there isnt anything more refreshing especially on a hot day.
Adding slices of Lemon or lime just ruins it!!

8th May 2013

An Excellent Gin

I am not a great fan of gin, nor am I a fan of cucumber, but for some reason this really works.

25th March 2013

Great For Mixing

This gin is great for mixing when you're trying to exhibit the flavor of the gin and not run it over with sugar water. It is subtly sweet and fruity - so not as dry as your average beefeater or bombay sapphire - but still dry. This is the gin of choice in most mixology bars around LA and I understand why.

21st August 2012

Why cucumber?

Seems gimmicky to me. Doesn't mix well in cocktails (unless cucumber is the base), most bartenders do not recommend it.

4th July 2012

Drink neat with lots of ice and a slice of cucumber. refreshing and innovative gin
