Conker Spirit was founded by Rupert Holloway in the wonderful county of Dorset, home to many local beers but very little in the way of spirits. In walks Dorset Dry Gin from Dorset's first gin distillery! Conker Spirit's Dorset Dry Gin is distilled using British wheat spirit, New Forest spring water and 10 botanicals, including some rather distinctively-Dorset-inspired botanicals - Gorse Flowers, Samphire and Elderberries.
A summer meadow aroma leads among the subtle sweetness of citrus and icing sugar. Bright juniper percolates throughout.
Soft and supple, the palate begins with plenty of classic juniper elements among a berry jam sweetness and an underlay of more icing sugar. There’s a touch of spearmint here too.
There is a little damp, earthy spice and orange oil in the finish.
A wonderful take on dry gin that would shine with a helping of elderflower tonic.
Let me start by saying I really dislike gin. Of any sort. Always have and thought I always would. However, I tried this today and have to say I’m immediately converted. Very light and refreshing with a cleansing feel to it. It’s made me wonder if I’ve been missing something or whether this is actually so different from other gins that it’s the only one I will like going forward. Anyway, here’s to finding out.
Of all the gins we've tried out over the last couple of years this is the absolute best and our top choice. Outstanding flavour. Not easy to get up here in Scotland, but worth the effort.
I tend to read all the reviews before trying out a new gin. Well, I have to say, this one doesn't disappoint. I love my gin but would not consider myself a connoisseur - I'd probably struggle to identify the botanicals, apart from juniper. I found (past tense, as sadly the bottle is now empty) this to be smooth, easy to drink and with no dominant flavour coming through - just a very drinkable, pleasant, well balanced gin. Mixed with Fever Tree, slice of lime and a slice of cucumber it really is a very satisfying tipple.
There are so many gins out there that it’s hard to know what to get. I’m pleased that I picked Conker - I love this on its own with a good tonic, no need to add any jazzy flavours, it’s great on its own!
This gin is so average that I really cannot understand why people rave about it so much. There are so many more accomplished and complex gins out there & it's really not worth paying the "premium" price tag for this one.
