Bathtub Gin Bottling Note

An extraordinary award-winning gin from Ableforth's. Made using the traditional method of Cold Compounding (or in layman’s terms – infusing). Very high quality copper pot-still spirit is infused with ingredients including juniper, orange peel, coriander, cassia, cloves and cardamom, with the length of the compounding period controlled entirely by periodic sampling.

The result is an extraordinary gin, lightly tinted by the botanicals, and with a flavour which is both bold, and perfumed all at once. Sure to be a hit with amateur and professional mixologists alike.

Packaged using brown paper, string and wax, the presentation puts us in mind of a Victorian apothecary!

Ableforth's Southside recipe:

50ml Ableforth's Bathtub Gin
20ml fresh lemon juice
10ml sugar syrup
Mint leaves
Shake all ingredients over ice, fine strain into a coupe glass and top with soda

Tasting Note by The Chaps at Master of Malt

Nose: An initially juniper-rich bouquet is backed up with a solid backbone of rich grain spirit. Top notes of cardamom and orange blossom are evident with just a suggestion of cinnamon.

Palate: The initial focus is juniper, but the earthier botanicals make themselves known in the initial palate too. Mouthfeel is exceptionally viscous and creamy – this is good spirit, and it makes itself known.

Finish: The juniper subsides and gives way to cardamom and cinnamon, with a late resurgence from orange peel.

Overall: A most unusual, but quite entrancing gin.

Bathtub Gin Reviews

Fragrant and flavourful

Basically delicious! I'm no gin expert but I like my gin quite traditional/original. This was a surprise as it was so full of flavour but kept to its juniper origins too.

still the best

My sister-in-law lives overseas and still insists I bring 2 Magnums of this every time we visit!

Half Decent. In my humble opinion.

First gin review, This is my first bathtub, 30cl bathtub, 1 ice cube, 50mm fever tree gold. slight bitterness to start. Cant pick up on any of the flavours. Quite pleasant towards the finish. 6 out of ten. But would most certainly try again, for a second opinion.

Great gin - a fave!

Not sure why anybody would give this anything other than a glowing review? Has been a solid, full-flavoured go to of ours for years now, always have a bottle open.

Dear Santa... bring me another!

Delicious!! Tried with an orange slice like on instagram, going to have to get another bottle before the family comes over this Christmas because this one will be gone!

Knock out!

Did a blind tasting on this with 5 friends and it was unanimously the best. So good. Highly recommend and tastes great with Meds Tonic.

Don't judge a gin by it's cover

Disappointing. Too much play on old style gin and unfortunately it's far behind too many other English rivals

Revolting, bitter. Just nothing about it that is pleasant

lovely but not a fan of new "cork"

This is my favourite gin very smooth and have bought as presents to other who also loved it. My only comment is that they have change the "cork" within the last year or so and I now find it very stiff to remove
