Gin 1689 Bottling Note

This replica gin was based on the original 1689 recipe of the spirit made by the Dutch King William III (AKA William of Orange) after he was proclaimed King of England, Ireland and Scotland that very year.

The recipe, which was amazingly uncovered in the British Library's rare book section, lists the original ingredients but unfortunately, the quantities were concealed by code, which proved unbreakable.

The task of deciding new quantities was given to Herman Jansen in Schiedam, Netherlands, a distillery that dates back to 1777.

Tasting Note by The Chaps at Master of Malt

Pine-y juniper, a little anise and flickers of rich spice blend among plenty of ripe citrus notes.

Perfect gin for a warm summer’s evening. Drinking it neat or on the rocks is the best!

Great story, amazing bottle, insane gin ;)

Absolutely love this gin, packs a great punch, stands up with any tonic and super smooth!
Sometimes drink this one neat over some ice, but don't tell my husband haha

Oh and I recycle their bottles for glasses and lights.

Keeping me sane during Corona!

I had this Gin in a Craft Gin Club box last year, I have been hooked ever since! Such a smooth but potent gin. The spices bloom really nicely with some fever tree Mediterranean tonic - I added strawberries in the mix

Top Gin

I am a seasoned oldie Gin drinker and I have found this to be a very special Gin especially 6pm ( now 5pm🤪) during these troubled times and self isolation 😉
Great stuff - hence reordering 🤗

I got a bottle of this gin from my gin club. Interesting reading other reviews as I tasted it completely differently. It’s lovely and smooth and leaves you with a liquorice taste. My husband wasn’t as keen but I think that it’s delicious.

Well worth it!

Lovely gin, flavour really comes through even with a small measure. Pairs perfectly with citrus fruit.

Spicy hints of nutmeg and clove.

This is a really nice gin. Not tasted one like it, nice spicy after taste, nutmeg and clove, goes well with a slice of orange or lime with a good Indian tonic.

A lovely nose of fresh lemon and orange peel

This is a very nice Gin with a strong nose of lemon and orange peel. It is light and easy to drink and comes in a beautiful bottle. But, probably the most fascinating and unique feature of this gin is that it is based on the exact same original recipe that was introduced by King William of Orange into the UK about 330 years ago. It is a sip of pure history..

Juniper, fruity, citrus, warm spices!!

Just tried this gin and I must say I haven’t tasted any gin like it. Really smooth, interesting taste with a spiced finish. Used it to make my favourite cocktail, a Hanky Panky from the Savoy cocktail book, definitely mind blowing and a one of a kind gin!!

A great character full gin as gin should be!

This gin has a great story, tastes excellent and is delivered in a beautiful bottle. Sit firmly in anise, and also let Juniper and citrus come to full reach. Soft on the tongue and in the throat so that this gin is also perfectly straight drinkable. Absolutely recommended!

strong juniper, smooth, balanced citrus-y a and subtle spice notes, aniseed and cloves!

I tried this gin last summer at the Amsterdam Gin Festival where they had a perfect serve with Double Dutch Indian tonic and bruised strawberry's and raspberry's. It was an AMAZING summer drink and it definitely turned me in to a huge fan of this gin. Great stuff!!!
