Black Bridge

Situated a stone's throw from the historic village of Wheathampstead, Black Bridge Distillery derives its name from an old bridge that stood tall in 1897. While the bridge's vestiges are now part of the serene gravel pits frequented by walkers and cycling enthusiasts, the legacy lives on in the distillery's identity. Despite its relocation to the Luton Hoo Country Estate, the distillery maintains strong ties to Wheathampstead, rooted in familial connections and active involvement in community affairs.

Established in 2017 by Ash and Luke, two friends united by an ardent passion for moonshine, Black Bridge Distillery transitioned from grassroots beginnings to an award-winning establishment in a short span.

Black Bridge's maiden moonshine batch ran in April 2017, and since then, their cherished still, named 'Katherine', has churned out a diverse spectrum of spirits, satiating the palates of Hertfordshire and beyond.

For Ash, the journey to Black Bridge was more than a business venture; it was the realisation of a 15-year dream. A former member of the Royal Navy Submarine Service, Ash's commitment to the sea momentarily eclipsed his distilling aspirations. But with unwavering determination and meticulous planning, Ash designed a versatile 350-litre Stainless Steel and Copper Still, leading to the birth of 'Katherine'. Today, operating from their state-of-the-art facility at Luton Hoo Country Estate, Black Bridge Distillery caters to an extensive clientele, with many unknowingly sipping their gins and attributing their fine taste to other brands.
