1897 Quinine Gin

Introduced in mid-2015, 1897 Quinine Gin looks to support Malaria No More UK in their global effort to protect millions of lives at risk and unlock the vital funds needed to do so. The name comes from the year in which Nobel laureate Sir Ronald Ross confirmed the presence of the malarial parasite inside the gut of a mosquito and subsequently laid the foundation for fighting the disease. The anniversary of this discovery, August 20th, is now known as World Mosquito Day and honours his ground-breaking work which has saved millions of lives.

Despite child deaths from malaria having halved since 2000, however, the fight goes on as a child still dies from malaria every minute. To help this fight, over half of the producer’s profit (at least £5) will be donated to Malaria No More UK - this is enough to buy, deliver and hang a mosquito to a family living at risk from malaria in Africa, protecting their children while they sleep.

1897 Quinine Gin is made with cinchona bark, the natural and traditional source of quinine, which has been used as an effect antimalarial since the 17th century. Alongside the cinchona, it makes use of cold-distilled fresh white and pink grapefruit and lemon peels, as well as 12 traditional gin botanicals.
