Ukrainian Vodka

Ukraine has a long history of vodka production. Vodka-making traditions have been passed down through generations, with the spirit primarily distilled from grain, particularly wheat or rye. Originally produced for medicinal purposes, the early examples often incorporated local flavours through the addition of ingredients like honey, pepper, or birch sap, but a smooth, clean profile has been more popular in the last century.

Ukrainian Vodka is traditionally consumed neat and chilled, and plays a significant role in social gatherings and celebrations. It’s also been used in a number of cocktails, particularly around the world as big Ukrainian vodka brands like Nemiroff have been exported to many countries.

If we’re talking about Ukranian vodka, it’s also worth giving a mention to Horilka, a traditional Ukrainian alcoholic beverage often referred to as a type of vodka. It is a strong spirit typically made from grain, most commonly wheat, rye, or barley
