Hennessy VS

Hennessy V.S is a cognac produced by Hennessy, a French company that has been in operation since 1765. The "V.S" stands for "Very Special", and this cognac lives up to its name. It is made from a blend of over 40 different eaux-de-vie, which are then aged for at least two years in French oak barrels. This results in a smooth, full-bodied cognac with notes of vanilla, spice, and dried fruit. Hennessy V.S is perfect for enjoying neat or on the rocks.

The Cognac grading system was actually created by Maurice Hennessy in 1865. Hennessy V.S. (very special) cognac is the quintessential Cognac.

Tasting Note by The Chaps at Master of Malt

Woody and nutty, with a little sweetness. Develops rounded floral notes, with elements of berries, vanilla spice and plenty of oak later on.

Reviews for Hennessy VS
An excellent cognac at a good price.
My friend and I enjoy a good cognac, I've always preferred Hine Rare and he prefers Hennessy VS so we had a blind tasting, the two are very comparable, It may sound strange but I preferred the smell of Hennessy but the taste of Hine so I'm unsure which one won for me as you always get the smell of a drink before the taste but perhaps that's just an oddity of mine. I bought it for him anyway and he enjoyed the smell and the taste so Hennessy was the outright winner. I-nil to Hennessy, the outright winner. Thank you Master of Malt for being the referee, We bought the Hine from you as well for the comparison match !

A+, very pleased.
Had a toast with it to LtCol Richard Cole, last remaining Doolittle Raider, on his 103rd B-Day celebration. I must say it was very nice, going to place some in my liquor cabinet.

Revered...and with good reason. Like liquid silk, it's as smooth as James Bond in a velvet suit. Worth every penny.

Very interesting VS
The first impression is quite subtle with the aroma of cherry jam, oak, white grapes, sherry and very dominant menthol. Some rede currants in the background, too, and along the way a little note of plums.
The palate changes quickly: at first it's white wine, then cherry jam, menthol, fresh strawberries and a bit of red currants, then turns to sherry with plums in the background, leaves with a dry sherry-sweet note and an aftertaste of menthol, cherries, oak and dry white wine.
Finish is long lasting that I found to be quite nice for a VS.

General opinion: very easy to sip, not too complex, fresh and has a lot of aroma. Nice for a mixer, would picture myself drinking Sazerac with this. Lacks some oaky aromas, like young cognac tends to do, and may become repetitive after a while, meaning that only one glass will be okay for a good experience. Needs time to show it's true potential. But anyways, nice cognac in all, a very good way to begin a journey in the world of spirits.

Conclusion: 87/100, delightful, light and generally a nice purchase. Practical for a beginner or someone, who wants a classic drink.
