François Voyer XO Bottling Note

An XO Cognac from François Voyer, in the Grande Champagne region. To create their expressions, François Voyer use Ugni Blanc grapes which are initally aged in Limousin casks after distillation before being aged further in older casks for the desired flavour profile. Plenty of rancio, spice, dried fruit and oak throughout.

François Voyer XO Cognac Reviews

'Big Four' clone?

The nose is woody. On the tongue it is fruity, but a little too acidic and without a great deal of complexity. The finish is pleasant, quite long although not very layered. It's not a smooth brandy, it can burn a little if you don't sip it just right.
The overall impression for me was that it was similar to an offering by one of the big 4 cognac brands at this price. I found it lacking 'a point of interest', as might distinguish one of the boutique producers, but reasonable value for money.

Nice flavour but awfully sharp and unyielding

I have been savouring fine cognacs for 53 years. My every drink is Hine Antique. I thought I would try something different. I settled on Voyer XO gold. What a mistake. Most, if not all cognacs benefit from gentle warming. Voyer is no different. But it has a definite disadvantage. At room temperature it is like swallowing chopped up razor blades. I have tasted some rough brandies in my time but this takes the mottled oyster. I have given it over to the kitchen. Never again.

Drinks by the dram

Bought for my husband to try a new cognac and he loved it. Apparently very smooth. A wonderful way to find new favourites!
