The label of Jaffa Cake Gin claims that it makes the best Negroni known to mankind. Well, ta-da! This is the Jaffa Cake Negroni, made with the aforementioned Jaffa Cake Gin (which is in turn made with the eponymous Jaffa cakes), alongside fine Italian vermouth and an iconic Italian aperitif in the tried-and-true 1:1:1 ratio. It's all perfectly blended and bottle rested, allowing the ingredients time to integrate and harmonise, making for decidedly astonishing cocktails. Serve over a good chunk of ice (clear ice if you've gone through that whole rigmarole and have some to hand) with an orange twist and an actual Jaffa cake on your glass like a citrus wheel.
Fresh orange oil, bold juniper offering a wealth of pine notes, leading to aromatic herbs and a smidge of cardamom, plus a touch of chocolate coming through.
Bittersweet red fruit, with distinct citrus brightness carrying them along. Softly peppery juniper builds with herbaceous richness. Vanilla pod and a smidge of dark chocolate in the background.
A balance of fresh herbs and tangy orange, with the enjoyably bitter notes of each lingering pleasantly together.
All the hallmarks of an excellent Negroni, with the orange notes bolstered in a fantastic manner and the additional decadence of vanilla and chocolate. It stands out superbly.
I found this only subtly different to 'plain' Negroni, but delicious nonetheless, so it's good value in the £20 to £25 bracket for 500cl, I think.
I like to make my Negronis from scratch, but this stuff is 100% on point. Doesn't feel watered down like other premixed cocktails - bold, chocolatey and well-rounded. Ace!
Absolutely delicious. We love Jaffa Cake gin, and have made negronis with it before, but this feels better. The bottle is gorgeous too.
