This Aquavit from Aalborg was first created in 1946 to celebrate the centenary of their Taffel Akvavit. Jubiläums is flavoured with dill and coriander and it won a Gold at the 2001 International Wine and Spirit Competition.
Truly is the best Akvavit made
Picked it up in Copenhagen and I’m in love. It’s so smooth yet still has a little after burn in mouth that is very pleasant. Gonna be ordering loads for Christmas.
I lived in Skåne (Malmö/SW Sweden) opposite Copenhagen for over 30 years - before the bridge came we would take the 55 minute ferry from Limhamn to Dragør and stock up on Danish snaps and then come back (- spirits were much cheaper in Denmark then and also on the ferry!) Very highly "spirited" we would try and look "normal" as we came back through Swedish Customs with more than our allowances!!! Aalborg Jubiläums Akvavit is a prince of aquavits - shouldn't be served totally frozen because then you lose that exquisite taste. On Midsummer's and Christmas Eve - for the better part of the last decades of last century(!) - Jubiläums aquavit was de rigueur!!! For me, it still is! Skaal!!!
