Yoichi Single Malt Bottling Note

The latest Yoichi single malt will replace both the previous NAS release and the remaining age statement whiskies. The change comes as demand continues to stretch Nikka's aged stock, with this new Yoichi Single Malt (made of of whiskies of various ages) aimed at representing this special distillery's direct-coal-heated, peated yet fruity style.

Tasting Note by The Chaps at Master of Malt

Producer's Tasting Note:
Nose: Full-bodied, smooth. A mellow peat softly coats the aromatic palette at first, growing more powerful with time, as smoke, soot and salty notes transcend the initial nose. The aromas then evolve towards candied citrus fruit (lemon, orange), black liquorice and spices (nutmeg, ginger), and opens up with roots and dried twig aromas. Heady and floral (carnation, iris), it grows increasingly complex.
Palate: Firm, powerful. A well-balanced attack gives equal footing to aromas of peat, smoke, spices, fresh fruit (melon, kiwi) and nuts (almond, walnut), which it delivers in spades. The mid-palate starts off with chocolate notes, but the peat soon takes the lead once again.
Finish: Long, silky. Extremely mature, it overflows with ripe fruit (pear, Mirabelle plum, apple). The peat starts taking on an herbaceous and malty character, while the salty flavours gives the finish plenty of depth and coastal freshness. The final nose offers menthol, spicy (coriander, dill) and earthy (leather, chestnuts) notes.

Yoichi Single Malt Reviews

Very nice drink for incredible price.

Bought it today in Kyoto. Small local liquoir shop. 4200 yen. Amazing price for incredibly smooth whisky with nice dry finish.

Amazing choice for price point.

Amazing, beautiful whisky. The start and mid palette are amazing. This is a really good whisky. I chose this over Hibiki Harmony at a Japanese grocery store.

Wonderful

You can buy this whisky in Japan at the supermarket for half the price. Yoichi in my mind is closer in taste to Scottish whisky than Japanese. Might be on reason why many Japanese drinkers don't like it. I love it and I always keep a bottle around. Best taste for value whisky in Japan.

Solid

I live in Japan and, even here, the prices of Japanese whisky are ridiculously high. Japan doesn't tax whisky very much though, so scotch and bourbon are seriously cheap. Therefore, I hesitated a long time before trying Yoichi NAS. Why bother, when I can buy a bottle of Talisker 10 or Glenfarclas 12 for around 3,000 yen (about $28). However, it's actually a very nice whisky. It's rich, slightly peaty and smoky, yet fruity. It also has a nice long drying finish. I'll be keeping a bottle in my collection from now on.

The real scotch

I do not buy no age statement whiskies as a rule of thumb. But this one is worth breaking this and a few other rules. It is complex, yet still spirity, defo has some old and some young whisky in it. Nicely blended indeed. Expensive, but worth money. It should make scotch producers feel bad about their stuff. This is how scotch should taste.

Very nice

Good stuff, Yoichi never fails to hit the spot. Explains why the Nikka's blended efforts are so good.
