A delicious single malt from the Yoichi distillery, founded by Masataka Taketsuru in 1934. Taketsuru deemed the terroir to be perfect for whisky production, as this 15 year old will testify.

The nose is gentle and creamy with light fruits and a little nutty development. The palate is quite sweet with notes of subdued peat, winter spice and a nutty note. The finish is long and beautifully bittersweet.
Understated at first. A sweetish almost mild maple scent. A couple of drops of water brings out peat sherry fruit maybe apricot and a soft nutty flavour. long sweet after taste.
Let me first tell you that I'm either a whisky expert or a journalist. But simply a whisky consumer. I'd never heard of any Japanese whiskys before and I impulse bought a bottle. I did expect much cause of it's price and the general quality reputation for Japanese products. The first nip was euphoric! Complex, deep and sweet taste, exceptional smoke balance. Avery good composition, this is my favourite of all whiskys.
I loved this. A slight sweetness quickly leads to a very bold peat and a finish that isn't overwhelmed by smoke. A whisky of distinction.
When i was first introduced to the Yamazaki 18 it was $99 a bottle. With it around $225 I can no longer keep it in circulation. This bottle from Yoichi is every bit as good as the Yamazaki 18. Exceptional.
Had this whisky last night. It had some fruit, slightly peated and the wood was very dominante. Good for a dram.
