Yamazaki Mizunara 18yo Bottling Note

An extraordinarily exciting release from Yamazaki, which shows off the glory of mizunara wood maturation. This is an 18 year old single malt from the Japanese whisky distillery that has been fully matured in casks made from rare mizunara oak. Only found in a few parts of Japan, mizunara is a notoriously difficult type of wood to work with for coopers, though folks at Suntory have mastered techniques for identifying suitable trees and crafting the casks over the years. Created by chief blender Shinji Fukuyo, this was made to a be dramatic, unforgettable expression - we reckon he succeeded in that.

This bottle was part of a private collection - if you'd like more detailed photos just get in touch!

Our original allocation of this was split between a 3cl dram lottery [1 bottles' worth], a bottle lottery [1 bottle] and an auction (where everything over RRP went to charity) [1 bottle]. Why all the fuss? Read more on our blog.

Excellent
I was fortunate enough to win the dram lottery. This was a fantastic dram. Sophisticated, flavorful, lasting. I wish I would have won the bottle, but I feel fortunate to have had a chance to try it.

This whisky is so sexy, if it were a human being, it would be David Hasselhoff. 80s Hasselhoff.

Single Malt gods...let me win this lottery!
Extraordinary flavor, with a scent that's spicy and alluring. A hint of sweetness that doesn't linger on the pallet. Exquisite!
