Wolfburn Langskip

Another ace whisky from the Wolfburn distillery way up in the north of Scotland. Langskip is matured exclusively in first-fill bourbon casks and is bottled at a generous 58% ABV, making it a particularly powerfully flavoursome dram. Impressive as ever from Wolfburn.

Tasting Note by The Chaps at Master of Malt

Nose Demerara sugar, gingerbread, floral malt, white pepper and sugared almonds

Palate Dried fruit begins to take control on the palate - think sultana and apricot. Still enjoyably nutty with walnut and macadamia. A good helping of nutmeg and stem ginger gives it some heat.

Finish Last toffee apple sweetness and black pepper.

Reviews for Wolfburn Langskip
A must try or for collection
Fantastic - no other way to describe it.Did a tasting with family, 5 people rated it as following: 9.5, 9, 9, 8.5 and 8 (avg 8.8). Very smooth neat despite ABV, but opens up with a teaspoon of water. Another teaspon of water works as well. Sweet on the nose with caramel and fruit. Instant sweetness on the palate, sort of like honey-coated almonds. Strong finish, not unpleasant, but it will remind you it means business. Definitely no smoke and 0.5 rating is simply unfair. Great whisky!

Beast of the North
My 1st Wolfburn purchase. Great to drink neat & also 4or5 drops of water. Open the drink up. It will be a good winter bedtime nightcap

Unexpected smoke on this water
This is more of a question than a review. Does anyone else smell and taste smoke on the Wolfburn Langskip? On no reviews or tasting notes does anyone mention peat, phenols, tcp or smoke. But I definitely taste it on this bottle. Just in case my sense of smell was impaired by a recent cold I had the presence of smoke confirmed by family. I avoid peaty whiskies because I feel they overwhelm the more subtle interesting flavours. Is there a quality control problem at whatever bottling facility used by Wolfburn? Have they bottled Morven instead of Langskip? I was very disappointed because all the tasting notes would indicate this whisky might have hit my sweet spot.

One to take out from the back of the cupboard for only your best of friends.
Bought as a birthday present for someone that appreciates the finer things in life. I had already purchased for myself so knew this would not disappoint.

Well worth buying a bottle. You’ll not be disappointed
Not the biggest of whisky drinkers but like a dram now and again. Was bought this for my 50th. Best whisky by far I’ve ever had. Very strong and needs a small bit of ice or water to rein it in. Smooth as the ice that’s in it

Fabulous stuff for age
Quite potent, and young.
Lots of light fruit and ginger on nose. Nuts, more nuts and fruit. Then spices.. Pepper and ginger again. Something else too but can't place it.
A teaspoon of water is a big plus. Smoother again, and spices under control. More nuts, almonds I think.

Damn good this for a very young lassie.
Can't wait for this distillery to get some older stock.
Fabulous stuff for age.
