Whistlepig 10yo DBTD

A single barrel release from the wonderful Whistlepig over in Vermont, exclusively bottled for Drinks by the Dram! This straight rye whiskey has been given a 10 year old age statement, but the cask it was sourced from was older than 10 years, and it has been hand-bottled at 56.3% ABV. As ever from WhistlePig, this is excellent stuff, well suited to sipping neat and savouring, although we reckon it'll make an astonishing Manhattan.

Tasting Note by The Chaps at Master of Malt

Nose Vanilla fudge, butterscotch, liquorice, mint leaf and strawberry macaron, with orange marmalade and a hint of oak char.

Palate A chai spiced vanilla latte, with caramelised brown sugar, spicy rye and mint dark chocolate with caramel waffles.

Finish Butterscotch returns alongside a whole load of spice, with rye and oak leading into lingering notes of raisin cookies and buttery caramel.

Nice flavoursome rye discovered on a whim purchase
Up until now I've been mostly a Scotch drinker...bourbon and ryes just weren't my style...however on a whim I decided to try this DBTD Whistlepig 10 year...and I have to say its rather nice..though the caveat is up until I wasn't a rye drinker....its nice and smooth with lots of flavour, the rye spice isn't over the top...4 stars out of 5, mostly due to the price being rather steep, can get a lot of whisky for less, if you can find it on offer though I'd say go for it. I also worry that the top feels rather loose too...is this usually the case?...might have to look for another cork.
