The Pogues Whiskey Bottling Note

An Irish Whiskey from the band The Pogues and West Cork Distillers (not to be be confused with the American whiskey Old Pogue). The Pogues Whiskey is said to have the highest malt content of any blended Irish whiskey and it was developed by Barry Walsh and Frank McHardy. The bells will certainly be ringing out for this one!

Tasting Note by The Chaps at Master of Malt

Nose: Sweet-smelling malt with waves of toffee to follow.

Palate: Smooth and creamy, toffee, vanilla, touch of dark chocolate, with some peachy fruit.

Finish: Dark chocolate, fudge, vanilla.

Pogues Whiskey Reviews

Smooth & Complex

Very drinkable, with a smooth finish and aftertaste. Surprisingly complex. I'm looking forward to trying tasting more whiskey from West Cork.

Awful. Buy a bottle of Bells.

Has a peaty smell, but very smooth and very slightly sweet taste.

Well done

Very good, will certainly occupy my drinks cabinet

Ultra smooth

I can’t believe the negative reviews, I’m thinking did they review the same whiskey that I have just had? Because this is one of the smoothest whiskeys I have ever drunk in my entire life. Wonderful!

Starts well and then let's you down heavily. What a shame.

The initial taste is smooth and reminiscent of the Spey Valley Scottish Whiskies. Holds well on the palate. However, the lingering bitter aftertaste on the top of the mouth is off-putting and this is an experiment not ready for market yet.

As above

Very fecking nice

AWFUL advert for Irish Whiskey

Absolutely the worst Irish Whiskey we have ever tasted. Corked taste (well it does come from Co Cork.) leaves you with a sour taste in your mouth. Made by amateurs and tastes like it.

Hail Hail The Celts are here

Outstanding whisky, I was pleasantly surprised as I am a huge Pogues fan and thought it was just the name being used to sell it. Very smooth, hints of nuts and toffee apples with a beautiful lingering light smokiness.

5 stars

hoping to sample the rum cask finish very soon

What the hell is that aftertaste?

Dominatrix-leather-boot nose. Overpowering burn, flavor a little like the smell of acrylic paint. Badass kick, then a weird sweet coppery aftertaste. Not sure why this is a Pogues whisky, as it's more like a Mötörhead flavor. I imagine, if you licked Lemmy's most seasoned bass guitar, and saved the strings for last, that this would be its alcoholic expression. Five stars for evoking badass rock and roll, two taken off for evoking it in weird and disturbing ways.

Buy a bottle, buy two and keep a little in your flask. This is good sipping whiskey for sure.

Everyone knows that I am a huge Pogues fan. Well here it is. The essence of the Pogues, its surprisingly complex for an Irish whiskey. It's sweet, intense and smooth all at once, just like the music I love and adore. Shane, Spider, James, Jem, Cait, Andrew, Terry, Joe, Phillip and all the others that came and went. You have given me so much happiness and now I'm drunk. SLAINTE, good show, good whiskey.

Slays at the party.

This is actually one of the lighter expressions from WCD

Much Better Than I Expected

I confess that I was sceptical that this would be a well branded but poor quality whiskey.

But being a Pogues fan and as I was given a 5cl bottle for Free (!) I decided to tackle my fears head on! I'm pleased to say my concerns were unfounded. This is a very easy to drink, pleasant whiskey which at the price point is good value. I got a nice malty cereal, with toffee apples and a smooth finish.

On a par with the finest Bladnoch, exquisite.

Tried this at The Grapes in Goosnargh, a mellow delightful tot, perfect to savour after a meal. Very impressed thanks.
