A 10 year old Irish whiskey finished in a Madeira cask. Jim Murray rated a previous edition with 95 points, Whisky Magazine gave it a "Recommended". This is a juicy, fruity Tyrconnell.
This is absolutely stunning. I started with not wanting to like this as much as pot stills like Redbreast or Midleton Legacy, but I can't get away from it. A beautiful, sophisticated sweet nose with spice and light fruits, changes to some gorgeous caramel notes to finish. Great bottle.
Excellent. Superior to green spot. On a par with redbreast 12 and yellow spot.
This is a very good dram. Fruity, caramel, somewhat spicy (yum!). Surprisingly good for a 10 year old. LCBO gave it a very precise review. And LCBO price is very good $79 where at SAQ it's $108. If you live on the boarder, the choice is easy to make!
I haven't had Tyrconnell whiskies for a number of years and bought a bottle of this recently to judge for myself if I believed it as good as the 2017 gold medal and Irish Single Malt Whiskey of the year awards indicated it is. I agree with those decisions. This whiskey is in my opinion quite good. So good I bought a bottle as a Christmas present for a very old friend who is a fellow Irish whiskey lover.
I didn't find this much different from an A'bunadh watered down to 46%. Granted, the A'bunadh is perhaps the best value in whisky out there, but still, at this price I expected more.
