Torabhaig Allt Gleann

It's the second addition to the Legacy Series – and second-ever release of single malt from the exciting Torabhaig distillery on the Isle of Skye, which first fired up its stills in 2017! Combining small batches of whisky distilled in 2017 and 2018, Allt Gleann captures the essence of Skye – brimming with roasty, smoky peat and plenty of maritime character. A very impressive expression indeed!

Tasting Note by The Chaps at Master of Malt

Nose Wafts of woody tobacco and crumbly vanilla shortbread. Earthy peat smoke and a zing of lemon zest combine with a salty maritime note of smoked shellfish.

Palate Bolder peat here, coastal tar with an oily texture, roasted, salted nuts, and light fruit salad. Floral wafts of heather, fennel, and a touch of metallic, medicinal pepper spice.

Finish Sweeter fruit notes with apples and kiwi, vanilla oak and big hits of peat smoke, with continuing sea breeze and briny harbourside character.

Reviews for Torabhaig Allt Gleann - The Legacy Series
Warming but harsh
There is very little peat to be found, or flavour on the front end, you get a slight spice and sweetness as you get that warming harsh ending, not great, more like a £20 whisky.

Very decent young peaty Scotch
Nose: earthy smoke, charred pineapple, lemon drops, biscuity malted barley and a distinct savoury note.

Taste: rugged, vanilla and citrus on arrival then rapidly developing bonfire smoke becoming sweet moving into peppery heat from the youthful spirit.

This is a really decent young whisky, very tasty!

Finish: Long, smoky and peppery

A good sign of things to come
Impressive balance with a moderate peat influence, offering character without being overpowering. The drinkability is top-notch, leading to a satisfying finish. The whiskey presents a light, creamy texture, featuring notes of black and cayenne pepper, coupled with ashy smoke. A subtle hint of light fruit sweetness adds complexity. Although it's a non-age-statement, it stands strong vs a Talisker 10. Excited for future aged releases.

Just WOW
I am a die hard Islay man...so lets get that out there...but..this has absolutely piled in and jumped alongside the best of Islay!! what a great turnout and what a touch from the team at this new distillery! light, peaty but not smack in face, fresh and just hugs you like a friend...cant wait to try the cask strength next!! i am getting a few of these in first...love it

Half of Skye's peat in it
Nothing surprising really, a rather strong "peatyness", surely enhanced by the young age, with nice salty finish. Great with a drop or two of water to ease the character.

Disinfectant & smoke mouthwash- drowsily distasteful.
Agree with other negative reviews. Harsh, immature and medicinal with little to like from start to finish. So many better drama there with pedigree to match the marketing hype.

A decent malt from a new a promising distillery on Skye
I’ve just visited the Torabhaig distillery and can tell you it is well set up in a perfect location , at the confluence of two burns. I tasted this the second release . The Allt Gleann , and for all it’s a young malt it has character- lightly peated but creamy vanilla with a hint of sea salt . I look forward to their next release in 2024 , Legacy 2.

What a horrible dram
It would be ok if the finish didn't taste like the smell of TCP

Complex and long Smokey finish
If you like peat, it’s pretty decent but a bit underwhelming at first. Grows on you though.

Pass on this, but keep your eye on them
I'm really not sure where all of these glowing reviews have came from.

Considering its age (3 years I think) it's a pretty decent dram.

Given its price, it's so far off! It has sweet notes, some complexity, but all of the harsh flavour you expect from a young malt. The initial flavour is not good and totally overwhelming.

It's certainly not bad, but it's not worth half of its price. I'm looking forward to their age statement release.

For now, pass on this and get a bottle of Tobermory if you want a well rounded un-peated island whisky
Of course there is always the Talisker distillery, who for now at least are putting out much better stuff.
