“For perspective, I am usually a smoke head type of whiskey drinker so at first taste I thought this was going to be too 1 dimensional and I am sure there are people who will find this either too much (smoke) or not enough (other, punchy flavours). However once I accepted the duality, I found I couldn’t get enough! The nose is smoke and earth but for me also also marzipan and Turkish delight. I love it. It’s a whiskey you can really hold in your mouth, exactly as described in the tasting notes but also for me a little nutty and a hint of iodine. A dash of water brings out the sweet flavours. For perspective, I don’t like creamy but this was just enough caramel and custard, without getting anywhere near sickly. Right at the end, a suggestion of unripe conference pear and mineral water leading back to the peat and smoke. Five stars for the price range. A thoroughly enjoyable and far too easy to drink whiskey.”
