Released in late 2007, a peaty single malt from the Tomintoul distillery.
Full and pungent. There are notes of heather roots and wood smoke. A dark peat with notes of copper and pine oils with a touch of gentle sweetness from the barley malt.
Quite rich and powerful. There are notes of toasted oak with notes of pepper and the smoke thereof. Notes of toasty cereals and supple peat. A wistful ash note builds.
Long and hot with pepper and a leafy green note.
If you like Tomintoul and peat, then go for it ! I don't like Tomintoul signature flavour so it was not my favorite. That being said, I think they did a great job creating a peated malt with balance. Also at a decent price !
My cousin/brother by another Mother gave me a bottle of this commemorating my retirement. He's known I've LOVED Scot's whisky for years and this was/is the "icing on the cake." I HIGHLY recommend this IF, and only if, you're looking for something to broaden your Scot's whisky boundaries. It's surely LOVELY. And, ONLY to be enjoyed S-L-O-W-L-Y. VERY enjoyably slowly...by the thimble full! It's a treat to behold for those with discriminating Scot's whisky tastes. Enjoy!
Bought this whisky as a cheap peaty dram, only 18,50 euro's. This is a great whisky in it's price range. A decent whisky overall. Nice peaty flavor, little peppery, some hints of dark chocolate, subtle sweet finish. Richer than I expected. Gets even better with a little bit of water. Very nice! Great for someone who wants to try peated whiskies for the first time!
Great stuff and a rich quaff from Tomnitoul. Just enough of heady, rich peat and a great crossover taste to the smoky, peaty jewels that form the class of Islay sips.
Not my style at all, way too smoky. You either love this or hate it and my bottle is basically decoration
