Tomintoul 12 Oloroso

A gentle 12 year old from the Tomintoul distillery. This was matured in Oloroso sherry casks.

Tasting Note by The Chaps at Master of Malt

The nose is quite light and well-balanced. There are notes of chewy oak with a toasty feel, notes of sherried peels and sultanas, cut hay and malt extract and a touch of barley sugar. The palate is of medium-body. There are notes of winter berries and blackcurrant preserve, notes of gentle, thin smoke with notes of malt extract and crisp barley sugar with toasty cereals and a soft honey. The finish is of medium-length and well-balanced with a refined subtlety.

Reviews for Tomintoul 12 Year Old Oloroso Sherry Cask
Nothing fancy, just a darn good smooth dram of single malt. Don't waste your time judging it, just enjoy the drink. A 4.5 for every day drinking.
I have had this sitting on my shelf collecting dust for 2 years. I brought it to life as a late CHRISTmas gift to me. I must say I was pleasantly surprised. It truly lives up to its label. A very good dram. Whether you drink it in a chilled glass neat, or with just a bullet ice cube it should please anyone's pallet.

THINK I WILL ENJOY FINISHING THIS
NOSE HAS FRUIT AND NUT AND A LITTLE PUTTY I THINK. MOUTHFEEL IS GOOD AND CREAMY WITH MORE CAKE, FRUITS, A LITTLE ORANGE PEEL AND PECANS; MAYBE BLACKCURRENTS THERE TOO THE MORE I DRINK, EVERY NOW AND THEN I GET THAT PUTTY/LINSEED AGAIN BUT NOT TOO MUCH.
FINISH IS LONGISH AND WARMING. A RATHER GOOD 12YR OLD THIS FOR DECENT MONEY. THINK I WILL ENJOY FINISHING THIS.

Great stuff, sweet and syrupy
I have had about 4 bottles now and enjoyed each one, nice aroma , lovely warm syrupy dram.
Probably not everyone's thing but it works for me, pity it's limited edition because it will run dry and will probably cost a lot more to find something else like this.

Very gentle and good
It is as good as, if not better, than 12 year Glenlivet.

Won't revisit.
Expensive for what you get. Tastes young. Rough finish.

Sherry
A very good sherry whisky for the price. I was not disappointed.

The subtle sherry finish leaves lots of room for oak and barley flavours. Also a faint hint of smoke that intrigues me. It's good for the price but in the end lacks the complexity to make me come back for more.

A pleasant dram
Thoroughly enjoyable. I found the nose improves well after a few minutes in the glass and has a nice sweet balanced taste. I also enjoyed the Christmas cake aftertaste from this dram. I'm a big fan of sherried whiskies and this didn't disappoint. Highly recommend if you fancy an easy drinking sherried dram.

Beautiful palate, rough finish
I absolutely loved the Nose and the palate as it was very fruity, sweet and harmonious. The finish, however, was quite rough in comparison and I have to say it was not my taste.
