Ledaig Rioja Cask Finish

The Tobermory Distillery has kicked off its Sinclair Series of bottlings with a brilliantly flavoursome Ledaig single malt, which has enjoyed a finishing period in Rioja wine casks! The series is named after the distillery's founder, John Sinclair, and this particular edition packs plenty of peaty notes alongside the ripe red fruit sweetness imparted by the Rioja casks. A sublime evening dram, this.

Tasting Note by The Chaps at Master of Malt

Nose Red grapes, cinnamon, rose petal jelly, and a wave of coastal smoke.

Palate Grassy peat, stewed plum, raspberry, almond, dark chocolate.

Finish Salted caramel, cherry, clove.

Great present
Bought this whiskey as a birthday present for my younger brother. Let’s just say he was very impressed with my choice. Not being a whiskey drinker, I went by the reviews and worked out a great choice for him. Taking into account the casks it matured in.

mmmmm Above OK
Was intrigued as love rioja and wondered how this would transfer into influencing the Ledaig...and as an Ardbeg man...how the peat/smoke would survive..but its very well balanced ..nice fruit flavour also pulls thru...for the money this is absolutely worth it...not a bad dram ..not amazing but pleasant enough

Cheap Drinkable Ledaig
It's true that it's a little thin and lacks the depth or body of a 'proper' ledaig , but for the price it's a solid whisky and a great introduction to the distillery if you are trying for the first time or on a budget. If you are already a fan of Ledaig then you need to invest in the 18 YO which is epic but more than double the price.

Goes down like pop - but not really in a good way
To be honest, it tastes like what it is - it's Ledaig, but cheaper, and therefore....

It has the typical Ledaig soft briny peat, but without the body of the 10. Instead it's pretty thin. Really, not much else to report.
Personally, I would definitely pay the extra and get the 10 - it's really worth it

A very nice moderately priced whisky
Not particularly smokey but a good palate and pleasant lingering finish. Perfect for drinking by an open fire.

Not really my idea of a smokey whiskey
Not really my idea of a smokey whiskey. More like a low land malt in taste and colour. Tasted a little young and raw although not unpleasant.

Oh yeah
I don't normally go for smokey drams but this is very much an exception! Very clean, lingering warm wintery feeling. Very nice indeed!
