Ledaig Rioja Cask Finish

The Tobermory Distillery has kicked off its Sinclair Series of bottlings with a brilliantly flavoursome Ledaig single malt, which has enjoyed a finishing period in Rioja wine casks! The series is named after the distillery's founder, John Sinclair, and this particular edition packs plenty of peaty notes alongside the ripe red fruit sweetness imparted by the Rioja casks. A sublime evening dram, this.

Tasting Note by The Chaps at Master of Malt

Nose Red grapes, cinnamon, rose petal jelly, and a wave of coastal smoke.

Palate Grassy peat, stewed plum, raspberry, almond, dark chocolate.

Finish Salted caramel, cherry, clove.

Reviews for Ledaig Rioja Cask Finish - Sinclair Series
Very Drinkable Whisky
This is a lovely whisky. At 46.3% proof, you need to treat it with respect. It is smoky, peaty and extremely smooth. I like mine on its own or occasionally with a teardrop of water. This is a very enjoyable whisky and I've already recommended to friends and have already bought it again.

Vino, humo y caramelo...
En nariz, se aprecia un sutil vino tinto con presencia de madera ahumada, en boca es caramelo y frutas pasas... un final que no desepciona.

A lovely whisky
This was bought as a birthday present. It is a lovely whisky. At 46% proof, you treat with respect. It is smoky, peaty and extremely smooth. I like mine with one cube of ice. ARRRRR I hear some of you saying, but to each their own. This is a beautiful whisky and I've already recommended to friends and will buy again. Cheers :-)

Worth it
Was recommended this by a member of staff at Deanston distillery of all places, and so glad I tried it. Not usually a fan of peated whiskey, this is pleasant and has a sweet smoke similar to bacon smoke with some rich red spices. Sweet too from the rioja. Whilst its not the deepest it does have a nice mouthfeel without being too oily, and for a NAS, its a good dram. Dont add water. Great for the price, would buy a second bottle. It goes down well with party guests too.

Hard to stop drinking it
The Spanish rioja wine influence translates really well, so lot of fruit and smoke on the nose and palate. Feels a bit young and raw, but still is overall a fantastic whisky. The bottle I had disappead way too quickly. One of the best I ever tasted. Very well presented packaging, too.

Good value for money when...
Good value for money if you can get it for £5 less than the 10yo.
Sweater & peat softer caues of the red fruit note the RW cask brings.
Mouthfeel is a little thin due to it being NAS, making this a CS might help this.
TBH if this increases in price to comparable to the 10yo IMO it's the better option but I'm not stating this is bad by any means.

Lovely for what it is
Bought this bottle while on vacation, surprisingly good price compared to at home. It’s like BBQ and red wine with dark cherry. Seems like a strange combination but it’s definitely done well. I’d consider this a dessert scotch due to the sweetness. Enjoy this out on your deck or patio after dinner with some friends, especially those that aren’t necessarily whisky drinkers. There’s enough peat here to satisfy and enjoy with just the right amount of red wine to add some complexity.

Absolute Bargain. Rich, sweet and smoky.
My 2nd bottle. I got this 2 years ago and took the notion for another when reflecting on what I've enjoyed in recent times. Was shocked to see the price hasn't budged. What a steal. Very warming on the nose, with dark fruit and underlying peat. Theme continues on the palate - the decadent berries and brown sugar giving way to the earthy smoke. Only gripe being it feels a bit thin in the gub. Good length on the finish - sufficient enough to remember you paid under 35 beans for this belter.

A hidden gem
Their 10 years old is up there with the most Islay classics. This one ist also very good. I dont want to write about
all that nonsense about the hints of this or the notes of that. or the lack of depth etc. This is a very good Islay alternative
with good amount of smoke and a nice red wine cask finish. I have already bought my second bottle and it will be not my last for sure
