Single Malt
Scotland
Claxton's
21 Jun 2007

Peated 9 year old single malt from the Tobermory distillery, released under the Ledaig name. This was distilled in June 2007 and aged in a refill hogshead before being bottled by Claxton's with an outturn of 335 bottles.
Earthy oatcakes and burnt fruit. A hint of vanilla helps bring the sweetness more to the fore.
Sea salt and peppercorn. Orange peels, sea shells and a light hint of basil.
Quite long, with smoke developing on and on.

Wow! If you can get past the 1970s look Eau de Cologne bottle (!) this is a treat. Plenty of coastal brine and smoke on the nose with almost single grain-like esters prickling your nose. Deep and warm spice hits with a light touch of citrus and floral / herby overtones. All rounding off with h a very long warming drop at the finish. A very special cask this one with lots to recommend it. If you like a drop of Ledaig get this before it's gone - a very interesting excursion into what the Tobermory distillery can do !
