Wine Cask
This limited edition Ledaig began its life in 2001 at the Tobermory Distillery. The peated whisky was initially aged in a bourbon hogshead before it was treated to a finish in a Jurançon wine barrel. When it was 18 years old, Murray McDavid bottled the single malt for the Benchmark series at 58.1% ABV.
Fairly funky, with earthy peat, charred vanilla pod and sweet raisin.
A touch of grape skin, followed by damp oak, oily malt and smoky peat with some tropical fruit sweetness there too.
Sweet wine notes come through, with a whisper of smoke lingering.
