Darkness
Scotland
Single Malt
Wonderfully well-sherried and heavy peated single malt from the Tobermory distillery, independently bottled as part of the Darkness! range. Before bottling, the whisky was allowed a finishing period in little, specially-coopered Oloroso sherry cask, imparting a hefty helping of dark chocolate and fruit notes. A release of 421 bottles.
Roasted apple and pear, stewed raspberries, cinnamon, burnt wood.
A great core of earthy peat, juxtaposed by intense chocolatey sweetness.
Bonfire embers, Weetabix with blueberries, treacle tart.
A rare dram now, special for those who know. Glad I bought 3 bottles. 1st has gone down very well indeed during the back end of winter.
A damn fine dram. Super peaty, enjoy it more than Octomore or other peat monsters.
Wonderful! Liquid smoke, old leather, milk chocolate... Give me more!...
This has definite character, but the peat is too overbearing for me. However, my partner who loves peaty whiskies really enjoyed this malt. To her, it is a very enjoyable cask-strength whisky, helped with just a few careful drops of dilution. My rating reflects her enthusiasm, downgraded a bit to reflect my own view.
A liquid dessert this cheeky little number! Dialled up to 60% to blow your socks off. Having said that the balance is reasonable since my guess was 50%. I'd drink gallons of this if it wasn't a thousand pounds a gallon. Good dram, thank you Balamory.
