The Macallan 12 Year Old Double Cask

Unfortunately, we can't ship The Macallan 12 Year Old Double Cask to the United States at the moment, but we've got some friends who can.

Macallan 12 Double Cask Bottling Note

An exciting new age statement single malt Scotch whisky from Macallan that's matured in a combination of American and European Sherry oak for a minimum of 12 years. Here, the proportion of American oak ex-Sherry casks is higher than in the 12 Year Old Sherry Oak, but no ex-bourbon casks are used as they are in the 12 Year Old Fine Oak release.

Tasting Note by The Chaps at Master of Malt

Nose: Classic dried fruit territory, if less intense than the Sherry Oak expression. Aromatic butterscotch too.

Palate: Creamy and honeyed with some thick-cut marmalade, cinnamon and warm pastries.

Finish: Fruity with vanilla and sultana.

Macallan 12 Year Old Double Cask Reviews

The new double cask fails to live up to past expectations

Just tried the new double cask hoping to experience the old Macallan I used to love. Sadly the American oak flavour is too strong and it is now not worth the price. Compared the the Balvenie double wood, it comes in a distant second.

Such a let down for me

I had Macallan years ago but stayed avay because so many said its gone down on its craft. Finally had the double cask 12 and its sad to see a great whisky distiller going after profits not legacy.... This not bad but my god is the price ridiculous!! If half the price then okey whisky. Gonna stick to those who still take pride in their products. Lots of vanilla and citrus on the nose and palate. Very short finish, and watery.

to all the haters that say this is an awful whisky, that is your opinion and you are welcome to it.
Newcomers do not dismayed from trying based on others opinions. Try it for yourself.

I for one like this whisky. It is easy to drink neat or with a few drops of spring water. It is not overly aggressive, nor is it meek and lacking character.

I would frame it as a very good single malt. The price point is accurate for what it offers.

Not worth the cost

Sharp bitter taste. Nothing fruity about it. No body at all. Will not buy again.

Unless I find a good mixer. Will not buy again

I bought the 12 yr old sherry oak. Personally I thought my chest was going to burst into flames after my first sip.

Do you know, I do business with most of the whisky producers in Scotland and pretty much all whiskeys bottled in Scotland are filled , using my filling tubes.
This, is quite frankly, a particularly disappointing so called Malt.
I’ve really really tried to find its merits, but, in the final analysis , it drinks, as one previous correspondent articulated , it really drinks like a blended whiskey.
In fact, if you look at the CV of the chap who owns it, it rather places the whole issue into perspective.
If you really want to enjoy a thoroughly good malt, may I suggest Springbank.
