The ONE Bottling Note

The first whisky from The Lakes Distillery, a British distillery in Cumbria that are as proud of their picturesque part of England as they are their excellently blended whisky. Both The ONE whisky and Cumbria are equally beautiful, but only one of them has sweet, spicy notes and a whiff of smoke, so we know which one we'll put in our glasses (it's the whisky, in case you were wondering).

Tasting Note by The Chaps at Master of Malt

Nose: Fresh fruit, treacle, potpourri and subtle peat-smoke.

Palate: Caramelised nuts, spice and dried fruits with swirls of wood smoke.

Finish: Mid-long, sweet and smoky notes of burnt toffee.

ONE Reviews

Surprised at how good this was.

One of the best blended whisky’s I’ve had. Will definitely purchase again.

20th May 2020

Will definitely buy some

I tried this lovely drink for the first time and thoroughly enjoyed it

8th October 2019

Better than some reviews suggest but too smokey for me.

I don’t enjoy smokey whiskys so it wouldn’t be fair to rate The One. It seemed like a very palatable whisky but I didn’t enjoy it because of the smoke. My advice is buy a small 5cl bottle before you spend big. Will it be better than your Smokey Grouse etc? Yes!

Smooth and drinkable

Quite skillful in its execution. Smooth, honeyed, floral, so I’m suspecting some young Speyside and perhaps a Highland or two have made the cut. Really decent price for a very drinkable drop.

I'm so sorry to say this whisky is undrinkable. I don't know if I got a bad bottle but this is so dreadful I couldn't give it away as I offered it to a few people but no takers. So disappointed. The gin on the other hand was absolutely amazing.

I first tasted ONE on one of the many visits to the lakes. A pleasant surprise when I received a bottle for my birthday and I can honestly say it is the best whisky I have ever tasted.

27th October 2018

Ardmore in this?

Highly suspect that Ardmore Distillery's whisky is in part, in this whisky.
Not great, not totally bad either.

22nd June 2018

Not too bad.

I was given a bottle of this for my birth a couple of years ago and have to admit it was rather good. Price slightly inflated for a new blend but I would say it’s worth paying. Quite pleasant on the tongue and the finish was too harsh either.

For an English whisky I can’t fault it.

Sweet, smokey with a surprising mouth feel

Smokey on the nose, slight honey on the palette with smokey follow through. I compare it to a nice talisker single malt. Despite being a cheaper blend I am very surprised, holds it own weight straight or on the rocks to open up the bouquet.

An unexpected surprise!

My wife bought me a The One 'bauble gift set' for Christmas, so I really wasn't expecting very much from this at all. What a wonderful surprise to find that this whisky is not only palatable but smooth and deliciously warming, and is now definitely one of my favourites.

Lovely Blend

Seems to be an ever-changing blend, perhaps with Dhavall Ghandi's influence!

Super dram

Excellent whisky. Blind tasted against supposedly loftier opposition and was the best

I'm not usually a blended man but I was well and truly turned over by the guy in the Lakes Distillery shop. I tasted several while I was there and enjoyed this the most.
It's sweet and has a rum and raisin aftertaste that I found quite enjoyable. It's just not as deep or smooth as a malt. For my money it's over priced too.

16th September 2017

L0wer the price and it has to be a winner'

Tasted the ONE for the first time on a holiday to Cumbria. I loved the smoothness and the light honeyed sweetness, but was shocked at the price.

24th February 2017

Smooth but packing a nice final punch

I thought the flavours in this blend were very refined, ignore the negatives and try it yourself. It has a lovely honey note which finishes with fresh green notes, - a long peppery aftertaste and that hint of smoke that rounds it off really well - an impressive start

Decent premium blended

I was concerned it might be slightly overpriced, but this is a really good blended & a happy reminder to self that cask-strength single malt is not the only drink. Am relieved I liked it so much as I want this distillery to do well.

31st May 2016

Average tasting nothing special

Average whisky , nothing special I am afraid you can enjoy better for the price . The sort of whisky I would nip in a cuppa on a cold night

30th April 2016

The One (star)

Aptly named because that's all I'd score it out of 5. Ok, it wasnt unpleasant, and better than a supermarket blended. But not a whisky drinkers blend. and there are better premium blends at less cost.

Disappointment in a Bottle

I was expecting this to be something special priced at almost £30 a bottle.

Well, I was left disappointed...

Sweet and malty on the palate with a hint of citrus and then it is gone, no complex depth of flavor here and no finish to speak of.
Tried a second glass with just a drop of water and I can say I won't be buying a second bottle.

There really are much better blends out there and much better value for money.

30th November 2015

Really easy drinking

a really nice easy drinking whisky. very smooth, yes it's a "blend" but its a lot better thought out than some single malts!

10th October 2015

Love this blend

I have just come back from a few days in the Lake District and tastes One for the first time. Having tried my fair share on single malts and enjoying the taste but not the strength, this is the perfect combination of smooth flavour and no burn. Fantastic for people like myself who find the peatiness too strong.

26th September 2015

Fantastic, fact.

I have just had the pleasure of trying my first dram of 'The One'. Quite simply the nicest and most enjoyable blended whisky that I have had the pleasure of tasting. Smooth, yet sharp and all this from a blended.I for one will be awaiting the release of their single malt in 2017.

13th August 2015

not bad, really nothing special at all

Not bad, quite tasty, but no lasting taste and doesn't do much; all rather prosaic really, and ludicrously over-priced for what, at the end of the day, amounts to little more than a bog-standard blend

27th May 2015

love this fantastic blended whisky

3rd May 2015

The best 'blended' whiskey I have tasted in over 30 years!

31st January 2015

Different and Excellent

Having been drinking whiskies daily for over 50 years and usually somewhat unmoved by new brands or blends. This was a present and I have to admit one of the best presents I have ever received - it is a sublime, mellow whisky a gorgeous blend with the slightest hint of peat, It is a delight and a treat - I have found a new blend and a delightful friend. Thank you and Congratulations to the Lakes Distillery.

28th December 2014

A smoothe, earthy, honied taste followed by a slightly smokey after taste. There is a a very peppery aftertaste that lasts in the throat that is quite pleasant.
A good bleed with more to follow from this distillery. Malts, Gins and Vodkas.

16th November 2014

Nice drop

The One is a very nice drop of whisky. it retails at malt whisky prices, but it is as good as most malt whiskies. i bought a bottle and enjoyed it over 4 nights. it has a beautiful oily thickness, with light peat finish. i really enjoyed The One. i hope that buying from the distillery is cheaper than from other outlets, otherwise i feel the distillers will suffer badly.

10th November 2014

Highly of overrated

Why go on so much about the one,, there is at least ten that I know of half the price and far better, only speaking the truth,

7th November 2014

Just tasted blended 'The One' very nice. Pale peaty delicious, just sorry it was only 5c

12th October 2014

I have tasted some whisky's that cost much more that have been disappointing, The One is quite smooth with a light peat an citrus flavour a tiny amount of water helps the flavour. I purched 3 bottles when I visited the distillery.
I look forward to receiving my first bottle of there malt.

4th October 2014

very overpriced

Bought a bottle at the weekend and was so looking forward to sampling it. however my joy turned to despair on tasting. i first tried it neat then tried it with a little water. The One is very overpriced and overrated. At £30 per bottle i was expecting nectar, but only got cold-tea. I certainly won't be buying this distillers malt whiskey when it becomes available.

The One -- British Blend

I Have just had the pleasure of Tasting this really pleasant this whisky. fresh & smooth, kind on the palette, slightly peaty which lingers with citrus. Excellent First Production; The future should be promising.

15th January 2014

The One, hits the spot!

I ordered a bottle of The One having heard it was well worth a try. Very pleased I did. Speedy and careful delivery. Thought I'd keep it for Christmas, but it looked so good I tried it early. Very smooth, subtle peaty, smokey flavour. Goes great with water to let the complexity out without too much power. A delight to drink, well crafted blend bodes well for the Cumbrian whiskies to come. These boys know what they are doing. Strongly recommended.
