The Lakes Reserve No.1 Bottling Note

The very first release from The Lakes Distillery's Whiskymaker's Reserve series! This English single malt from the Lake District was drawn from a combination of red wine and Pedro Ximénez sherry casks, and has been bottled at full-on cask strength, resulting in a big, full-bodied flavour profile.

Tasting Note by The Chaps at Master of Malt

Nose: Orange zest, chocolate digestives, cinnamon and honeycomb.

Palate: Spiced hot chocolate, buttery malt, praline, a touch of flint.

Finish: Dried fruit (dates and sultanas), toasted nuts, boozy red wine.

Lakes Whiskymaker's Reserve No.1 Reviews

Nailed it.

Seriously good. If you like a sherry monster (which I do) then this is the ticket. Very much like Aberlour Abundah, but perhaps more oily (in a good way). This is as good as anything the Scots can do. It is clear that the Lakes are using seriously good casks. My advice is to continue to do so. As a first bottling of a young age this is standout. Rare are such young ones so good. Priced fairly. Hopefully won’t fall into the trap of Aberlour in putting an extra £10/20 on. I think that would kill demand. I now never buy Abundah: I used to buy 2 cases a year. So, well done The Lakes. This is great. Quality presentation too.

4 years old? Nah!

Dhavall Gandhi is a whisky genius. This is a crazy price for a 4 year old and yet absolutely worth it’s premium price. Well done to Dhavall and all the team at The Lakes. Outstanding 5 stars.

Great!!

I would compare this favourably against any of the sherry heavy offerings from Scotland eg Aberlour or Glengoyne. If they can make a 4 or so year old whisky at 60.6% this friendly and drinkable, I can’t wait to see what the future holds in store!

Unbelievable

A fantastic dram with complexity beyond its years, a must-try!
If you love a sherry bomb, look no further!

A delightful dram

I've been keeping an eye on The Lakes Distillery and had a lot of anticipation for their first affordable malt. Blown away by the quality of this whisky at such a young age and high strength. Outstanding stuff and can't wait for more to come.

Amazing

Very nice Whisky
Lovely and smooth - perfect as a desert drink I would say!! No rawness at all considering how young and strong this is!! I look forward to giving it a proper consideration - it's pretty complex

English whisky taking on Scotch!!

This is one AMAZING whisky for the obvious age! I until now only really bought Scotch. But after tasting this I'm hooked on what these guys can offer me as an alternative! Can't wait for more!
