1770 Peated

The Glasgow Distillery Co. isn't content with just making one style of whisky - oh heavens no! Behold, 1770 Peated! As you can probably figure out from the name, this is a peated expression, made specifically with heather-rich peat from the highlands. After distillation, the whisky was matured in new American white oak casks and allowed a finishing period of around a year in Pedro Ximénez sherry casks (whereas the unpeated 1770 Whisky is aged in bourbon casks before being finished in virgin oak).

Tasting Note by The Chaps at Master of Malt

Nose Zesty orange and a hint of quince, juxtaposed by wafts of floral smoke.

Palate Toasty oak and burnt sugar, with dried fruit richness building.

Finish Slightly nutty on the finish, though earthy peat continues on and on.

Reviews for Glasgow 1770 - Peated
Not quite Islay but much better than most Lowlands
It's a busy wee mouthful, lots of tastes competing for some love. A dram to finish the night off with rather than start.

Liquid FRAZZLES
Beautiful new whisky - more bacon than Denmark. Only problem is the value. I'd be inclined to get the Lagavulin 16 over this for the cost.

This is delicious.
This single malt came highly recommended by Iain, owner of The Island Spirit Whisky Shop in Stornoway and it doesn’t disappoint. In fact as a self confessed Islay devotee, this in my opinion is the equal of anything from that island. Peated, rich & smoky says the label & it certainly is. Delicious, with a deep peat burn colour and a taste that is mellow. It’s a joy to gaze at, the oils leave long legs & the taste lingers long on the palate mmm. Whisky for me isn’t an intellectual w*nk, it’s do I really really enjoy it, or not. I agree with the 50ml comments, why not 70ml?

Larger bottles required.
Good whisky, all round. Lovely complexity, with a medium finish and the peating is just right. However 50cl bottles??? That needs to be rectified for the price.

Not bad, not outstanding.
Nose gives sweet peatiness, palate is smoky and zesty, finish fairly short, reminiscent of cointreau with sulphury smoke. Like the mouthfeel, fat without being too oily. An interesting whisky, would be happy to drink one if somebody poured it for me, but not one I'd likely buy for myself. Would like to see a version of this with a bit more age as I think it shows promise, but hasn't yet reached it's potential.

Very impressive peated.
Really impressed with the complex of such a young whisky.
Will keep this distillery on my lens for future degustations.

Sweet Smoke - perfectly balanced!
Absolutely outstanding dram for its young age. Perfectly smoky, but sweetly smoky. Fantastic dram from Glasgow Distillery, and winning all the awards!

A dram that in my opinion can charm many Islay style afficionados!
A ppm of around 50 (on the barley) is perhaps not heavily peated but still very nicely pronounced and convincing here.

Dry dust and old gloves
Misses the mark. Tastes like it's been filtered through a gravel pit and plowmans socks.

Try literally anything else and you'll be happier
